3 APRIL 2008.- MEL GIBSON DEFENDING "PASSION OF THE CHRIST" LAWSUIT

Mel Gibson is being sued by Benedict Fitzgerald

Mel Gibson is asking a Los Angeles court to seal financial records for his film "The Passion of the Christ."
Gibson is being sued by writer Benedict Fitzgerald over payment for the film's screenplay. Attorneys for Gibson and his production company have asked the court to only allow Fitzgerald's lawyers access to the records.
Fitzgerald, who shared screenwriting credits with Gibson, claims he agreed to "a salary substantially less than what he would have taken had he known the true budget for the film," which the lawsuit claims was 25 million to $50 million. The lawsuit claims fraud, breach of contract, unjust enrichment and seeks unspecified damages.

Hampton Roads is all too familiar with Navy life and deployments on Norfolk-based aircraft carriers, but an upcoming documentary will educate others.
Actor Mel Gibson produced the documentary, “Carrier” profiling life on an aircraft carrier.
The crew spent six months on the carrier Nimitz in the Persian Gulf. The documentarians shot nearly 2,000 hours of high-def video.
The Nimitz was home-ported in Norfolk from 1975 until 2001, then she moved to San Diego.
Local sailors PO2 Anthonoy Dellajacono and MA2 Stacy Reynolds of the USS Enterprise offered their own thoughts on the worst part of the job
“Just being out in the middle of the ocean for nine months straight, six months straight,” said Dellajacono.
“Being away form family,” said Reynolds. “I do have two children at home, so it’s hard going on deployments and leaving them behind, but it’s nice to come back.”
LTJG Elizabeth Pendleton of the USS Enterprise said told us, “The system is what keeps you going.”
“You have predictability and the routine is what keeps you going. Whenever there are changes, you know before we pull into a port. You get so restless and antsy, but when you are doing the same thing and you’re doing your job everyday, it’s very easy to focus on it.”
Steve Kiehl uses his 22-years in the Navy to run Grace Street Grill in Norfolk.
“I was a little 18-year-old kid right out of high school going to this massive monumental steel building,” he said. “Best memory on the carrier in the same timeframe pulling into a foreign port, experiencing all the different cultures, meeting all the different people.”
“Carrier,” the documentary, captures just about every aspect of life onboard the Nimitz.
"It's not always fun and it's hard work and that's kind of the honor of it,” said LTJG Pendleton. “That's why when service people walk down the street people honor them and say thank you for your service cause not everyone can do it so."
