Source: elconfidencial.com
RUMOUR NUMBER 1,848,523 (This new rumour is older than mayan pyramids. In fact, we have dated it to about 2000 AD.)- Mel is seriously considering playing the lead role in a movie based on the story of Henry Bradley, the man who helped compile the Oxford English Dictionary.
Gibson and Farah Safinia are rewriting the script, an old project rescued from the eternal oblivion.

12 MAY 2007.- MEL GIBSON WAS PRAISED BY THE JUDGE

Mel Gibson was praised yesterday by a Malibu judge for making progress through rehabilitation since last summer's DUI arrest. The judge told Mel Gibson that the actor's attempts at rehab were extensive and effective, praising the progress that the court feels he has made
Mira said, as quoted by E!, "I truly believe the rehabilitation that is being effected in this case is effective, and I don't want to do anything to interrupt that."
Mira told the press that he spoke with Mel Gibson earlier in the week and asked Blair Berk, the attorney for Mel Gibson if the recovery for the actor was moving in a positive direction. Berk also spoke to the press, telling E! that the actor's rehab was moving in a positive direction. "I've supplied the court with a report. He's doing extremely well. He's complied with all the terms and conditions and he's completed the program."
The program that Blair Berk refers to is a court-ordered rehab for Mel Gibson

The judge said this week, "I know his extensive participation in a self-help program--and I should note he has done extensive work, beyond which was required."
A final progress hearing will be held for Mel Gibson on August 23rd, which the actor will be required to attend. Maybe, a year after the arrest, the drunk driving case of Mel Gibson will be closed on that day. The judge said, as quoted by E!, "I do want to see him in court at some point to ensure we are all on the same page."

16 MAY 2007.- SPEECHLESS

Ladies and Gentlemen, WE¨RE SPEECHLESS FROM SHOCK.
Mauricio Amuy from Costa Rica, the "star" of that Famous teaser trailer who never played in "Apocalypto", has been proclaimed "Embajador de la Educación" (Ambassador of Education) by Costa Rican Government. The guy is in Panama where he has agreed to give a bunch of interviews to the local media.
According to Amuy, he was paid 1 million dollar for his work in Mel Gibson´s movie. Last December, Mauricio was very disappointed to hear that the part he had represented in "Apocalypto" had been cut from the film, but his lawyers finally came up with a solution and the "missing" scenes were rescued from the wastepaper basket where Mr. Gibson had sent them. The story had a HAPPY END; Amuy regained his lost status and HE WAS WITHOUT DOUBT THE STAR of "Apocalypto".
Amuy is a generous guy so he's not angry with Mel Gibson. As he understands it, Gibson was forced to hire a Native American (Rudy Youngblood) to act the leading man in the film. WHY???? Political reasons, of course. Everybody knows that Mel Gibson intends to stand for Mayor of Los Angeles.

    SPANISH VERSION (without subtitles)
  • Source: "La Critica"

  • Source: "Día a Día"

    ---------------

The Second Chapter will be published tomorrow.

17 MAY 2007.- SPEECHLESS II

IN THE NEW FUTURE.
According to Amuy, soon he´ll act the leading man??? in a very important film that will be shot on locations in PANAMA and COSTA RICA.
The movie is based on a book by "XXXX". We wonder whether the film director will be "GGGGG" (hehehehe).
¡¡¡ESTE CHICO ES LA PERA!!! (Translation: This guy is THE PEAR!!!)

PLANES FUTUROS Entre los planes futuros de Mauricio está el de hacer una película de una obra escrita por un autor "tico" y se presume que puede ser filmada en locaciones de Costa Rica Y Panamá.

17 MAY 2007.- REDLAND MUSEUM EXHIBIT INSPIRED BY APOCALYPTO

Source: The Press-Enterprise
The king stood under a stairwell at the San Bernardino County Museum, wearing a jaguar headdress, beaded jewelry and a skirt with a loincloth.
He was there for years, maybe even a decade or two, staffers said.
But now the king, who is nearly 6 feet tall, at least 1,100 years old and carved in limestone, will see the light, as part of the museum's "Five Suns: The Art of Ancient Mesoamerica" exhibit, which opens Saturday in Redlands.
For years, the museum has been collecting pieces from ancient Mesoamerica, including the Aztec and Mayan civilizations, but a Mel Gibson film helped inspire the exhibit.
Adella Schroth, curator of anthropology at the museum, said the Gibson-directed "Apocalypto," a 2006 release about the decline of the Mayan civilization, got the staff thinking.
"We have a lot of Mesoamerican artifacts," she said.
Schroth said that the museum has collected more than 800 artifacts, from tiny stamps and figurines to the large stela (carved rock panel) of the king. At least 100 will be on display, many for the first time.
"This is one of my favorite parts. I get to play vicarious archaeologist," exhibit designer Carey Smith said as he examined a large stone pendant.
The exhibit focuses on artifacts found in Mexico and Central America, and is about the Mesoamerican creation stories, which revolve around five suns.
Smith and his crew and other museum staffers have transformed 1,100 square feet of the hall into a Mesoameric wonderland, with walls painted orange and turquoise and intricate designs on rock carvings in the style of the cultures.
"I design as if I'm a kid on a field trip. What am I going to think is cool?" he said.
One of the ideas the museum worked on was a Mayan tomb, complete with a skeleton (a fake one made of resin, there was no grave-robbing involved), artifacts including bracelets and a necklace and a mannequin of an archaeologist they've dubbed "California Jones."
"We wanted to convey how an archaeologist at the time would work," Smith said, pointing out a camera and tripod from the 1920s that will be placed in the tomb with Dr. Jones.
Staffers from a number of departments at the museum worked to help get the exhibit together.
"There's a lot of connections, even to our area," museum spokeswoman Jennifer Reynolds said.
She said the Aztecs traded in the southwest and that a lot of the turquoise and shells used came from what is now Southern California.
Schroth said the other cultures introduced obsidian and parrot feathers.
There are also interactive stations within the exhibit, such as learning how to count in Mayan.
And in the middle of it all, the jaguar king watches.
"We're bringing him back to his environment," Smith said. "It's like the ghosts of all these things have come alive."

20 MAY 2007.- CUISINE

The Spanish website www.ideal.com has just posted a very interesting article "Atracon de Salud". Its author analyses all the pros and cons of the new ecological cuisine.
Suddenly, we read,
"Manías. También Mel Gibson opta por no ingerir pechuga de pollo......"
Translation:
"Crazes. Mel Gibson too chooses not to eat chicken breasts....."

A very sensible decision, PLEASE remember that he played Rocky in Chicken Run. Only a person lacking in sensibility would persist in eating chicken after having met such a cute rooster.

21 MAY 2007.- A SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSMAN

BELOW some paragraphs from "Film funds start to be star-driven. Top talent gets slice of pie"

Source: Variety
"With iffy results on their investments in studio slates, the financiers that have flooded Hollywood's coffers are trying a new tactic: Give the money directly to the talent.
Tom Cruise, Will Smith and M. Night Shyamalan -- as well as other top-tier actors, directors and producers -- are starting to reap a windfall as private equity funds, Wall Street banks and overseas interests funnel money into the industry. The new coin is helping to bolster stars' and directors' autonomy on their projects, and dangles the promise of copyright ownership and a greater share of the backend.
…………………………………………………
…………………………………………………
Ownership of a movie sounds great -- why wouldn't talent go for a deal that held the promise of more money and more control? -- but the power is limited when a studio controls distribution rights, as is often the case. Piecemeal ownership of negatives has a limited upside because the biggest multiples are for titles that are part of libraries that consist of at least 20 different movies.
"The devil is in the details," says producer Tom Pollock, who with Montecito Pictures partner Ivan Reitman has a financing pact to own their films. "Owning copyright doesn't mean all that much if you don't own distribution rights, too."
And owning a single film has limited potential in aftermarkets; owning a library is key.
Only a very few stars and directors have been able to amass enough titles to make it work. Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey built their Icon Prods. into a ministudio with distribution and foreign sales operations and a 200-film library that includes Gibson-directed films like "The Passion of the Christ" and "Apocalypto" along with titles from the Majestic and Kings Road film libraries. The impetus for Icon was Gibson's desire for creative control.
When Gibson tried to veer from leading-man mode, studios didn't make it easy for him. On "Braveheart," for example, Gibson didn't want to act in the film, and he wanted to shoot it in native dialect, as he would do later with "Passion of the Christ" and "Apocalypto." But he couldn't get financing unless he agreed to play William Wallace. He grew incensed at one point when Warner Bros. insisted he commit to "Lethal Weapon 4" before the studio bought foreign territories.
With the success of "Passion of the Christ," he now prefers to fully fund his pictures, make them his way and shop for the best distribution deal. On "Apocalypto," Gibson put up P&A costs, and Disney took a reduced distribution fee between 10% and 12.5%."

22 MAY 2007.- AND AUSTRALIANS TRUST...

Source: Reuters
Australians trust children's entertainers The Wiggles and the 8-year-old daughter of late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin more than they trust their prime minister of 11 years, a survey found on Tuesday.
Bindi Irwin, her mother Terri and the four flourescent-skivvied Wiggles were among the top 10 most trusted in a list put together by the journal Reader's Digest.
Prime Minister John Howard, leader since 1996, came in at number 86, well behind Hollywood actors Hugh Jackman (21), Cate Blanchett (32), Nicole Kidman (36), Mel Gibson (65) and pop superstar Kylie Minogue (43).
The most trusted person overall was internationally reknowned burns specialist Dr Fiona Wood, who pioneered an artificial skin treatment used on bombing victims in neighboring Indonesia.

21 MAY 2007.- ASSEMBLY BILL

Source: mercurynews.com
The day Mel Gibson was arrested last summer for drunken driving, a celebrity news Web site posted the arrest report, a move that state lawmakers on Monday said violated the movie star's legal rights.
That prompted legislation crafted to deter both the media and law enforcement from exchanging money or other compensation for information in criminal investigations. It passed the state Assembly by a vote of 74-0.
"Mel Gibson was one of those cases where information was given out before his due process was executed," said the bill's author, Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, a Santa Monica Democrat whose district is home to Gibson and other celebrities.
The measure now goes to the Senate and must be signed by the governor before becoming law.
It would impose criminal penalties on a law enforcement officer, peace officer or anyone else involved in an investigation who sold details or tips about a case. Buyers also could be charged with a misdemeanor and fined up to $1,000.
In Gibson's case, the celebrity web site TMZ.com was the first to post Gibson's arrest report online on the evening of his arrest last July.
Lawmakers said Web sites such as TMZ and Smoking Gun that compete to break stories have triggered concern among law enforcement agencies that Internet and nontraditional news outlets might pay for information before it is released.
TMZ spokeswoman Gillian Sheldon said Monday that the Web site did not pay for Gibson's arrest report.
"No financial compensation was given whatsoever," Sheldon said.
Still, Assemblyman Greg Aghazarian, R-Stockton, said he hoped the bill would "crack down on the glorification" of celebrities and the temptation of a few to profit in the competitive 24-hour news cycle.
"For the sake of a few dollars or to get someone their '15 minutes of fame,' it's not appropriate to sacrifice people's rights," Aghazarian said.
A representative for Gibson, Alan Nierob, did not immediately respond to a phone call and an e-mail Monday from The Associated Press.

23 MAY 2007.- CONFIRMATION OF MEL GIBSON¨S GRANDCHILDREN

Source: Arizona Daily Star
Mel Gibson was in Hermosillo on Tuesday to participate in the confirmation of his grandchildren at the home of the archbishop emeritus of the Hermosillo Diocese, a Sonora newspaper reported.
Gibson arrived at the Hermosillo airport at 11:30 a.m. and then got into a vehicle for the trip to the home of Carlos Quintero Arce, of the Hermosillo Diocese of the Catholic Church. He arrived at the archbishop's home a short time later. A second vehicle presumed to be carrying Gibson's family including his daughters and grandchildren arrived immediately after, the newspaper reported.
The actor declined to grant interviews as he arrived at Quintero Arce's home.
The archbishop and Gibson met in late December, when he visited Hermosillo and dropped by Quintero Arce's home where they talked "a bit about everything," including Gibson's movies "The Passion of the Christ," and "Apocalypto." They also talked about Gibson's personal devotion, Quintero Arce told El Imparcial then.
Gibson also invited Quintero Arce to his Malibu home to perform a ceremony to bless the actor's private chapel. Quintero Arce performed the blessing at a private ceremony in February, according to the Sonora daily.
The newspaper cited reports that Gibson is considering a new movie that would feature the life of Jesuit Father Francisco Eusebio Kino, who is credited with founding a series of Catholic missions in the area that now comprises Southern Arizona and northern Sonora.

23 MAY 2007.- CONFIRMATION AND LITTLE CHILDREN

In the early ages of the Church, confirmation was part of the rite of initiation, and consequently was administered immediately after baptism. When, however, baptism came to be conferred by simple priests, the two ceremonies were separated in the Western Church. Further, when infant baptism became customary, confirmation was not administered until the child had attained the use of reason. This is the present practice, though there is considerable latitude as to the precise age. The Catechism of the Council of Trent says that the sacrament can be administered to all persons after baptism, but that this is not expedient before the use of reason; and adds that it is most fitting that the sacrament be deferred until the child is seven years old, "for Confirmation has not been instituted as necessary for salvation, but that by virtue thereof we might be found well armed and prepared when called upon to fight for the faith of Christ, and for this kind of conflict no one will consider children, who are still without the use of reason, to be qualified." (Pt. II, ch. iii, 18.)
Such, in fact, is the general usage in the Western Church. Under certain circumstances, however, as, for instance, danger of death, or when the opportunity of receiving the sacrament is but rarely offered, even younger children may be confirmed.
