13 APRIL 2007.- GIBSON FINDS NEW TECHNOLOGY A DREAM
Source: Variety
Mel Gibson and d.p. Dean Semler used the Thomson Viper on 'Apocalypto' and came away impressed with its versatility in low light and its toughness in extreme condition.
On "Apocalypto," Mel Gibson found that using the Thomson Viper gave him a unique look.
He points to a scene where the film's hero is chased through the jungle by men carrying torches. Not only was he able to shoot using just the torchlight, but, "When you open the shutter 360 degrees, the quality of movement takes on a different quality that you don't get on film.
"The fire had a liquid thing that doesn't happen on film. The greenery and the stuff he's running by has this incredible blur effect; you can stop on any frame and it's like a Monet painting. It makes him look like he's going even faster than he really is."
Gibson was also excited about seeing those images with digital projection at the ArcLight theater in Hollywood.
For Gibson, the bottom line is simple: "I think the digital has caught the film. I don't think it's a wannabe anymore. It's an 'is.' It's a very high-class alternative."

13 APRIL 2007.- CALIFORNIA LAW COULD CHANGE
The media fallout surrounding Mel Gibson's much publicized DUI arrest could end up changing California law. A Santa Monica legislator is pushing a bill that would make it a crime for public safety employees to sell information to media outlets in an effort to clamp down on payments made by celebrity tabloids.
"This is a breach of the public trust, and if violated should be a crime," wrote bill author, Assem. Julia Brownley, D-Santa Monica.
Brownley introduced the bill at the request of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. The assemblywoman said she has no direct knowledge that information was sold in the Mel Gibson case, but said in the instant information age, Internet sites may be paying public safety officers for access to immediate information.
"In the Mel Gibson case, we know that once he was accused it was within that evening that he had a mug shot and there was a story," Brownley said. "So does that taint his right to a fair trial? I think possibly so."
Brownley's bill, AB 920, targets peace officers, public safety employees and court employees. It also affects media outlets. Any reporter who offers to pay public safety officials for information could be subject to a misdemeanor under the legislation.
The measure unanimously passed the Assembly Public Safety Committee this week. It has no registered opposition.

Since the beginning of their civilization, approximately 3,000 years ago, the Maya have related stories, legends and fables about mythical beings and the laws of nature. These tales are drawn either from both individual and collective experiences or imaginary ones. Today, they help us to understand a very different way of life and being, as well as allow us to enter one of history's most mysterious cultures. The following fable is by an unknown author and of unknown date. However, its location can be placed exactly in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and is called The Maya's Sadness.
One day, all the animals drew near to a Maya man and said to him:
-We do not like to see you so sad. Askk us for whatever you wish and you shall have it.
The man said:
-I want to be happy.
The owl responded:
-Who knows what happiness is? Ask us ffor something more concrete.
-Well then, continued the man, I want to have good sight.
The vulture replied:
-You shall have mine.
-I want to be strong.
The jaguar said:
-You shall be strong like me.
-I wish to be able to walk without tirring.
The deer replied:
-I will give you my legs.
-I want to be able to forecast the arrrival of the rains.

The nightingale said:
-I will let you know with my song. >
-I want to be astute.
And the fox said:
-I shall teach you.
-I long to be able to climb the trees..
The squirrel responded:
-I will give you my claws.
-I want to be able to see in the dark..
And the cat said:
-I will lend you my eyes.
-I want to be able to recognize mediciinal plants.
And the serpent responded:
-Ah, this is my domain, because I knoww all the plants. I will mark them for you in the fields and woods.
Hearing the words of the snake, the man left. Then, the owl said to all the animals:
-Now the man knows much more and is abble to do many things, but he will always be sad.
-Poor animals! Poor animals!

17 APRIL 2007.- GIBSON VISITED OAXACA
Mel Gibson visited Oaxaca last Easter Holidays.
Gibson was invited by actress Mayra Serbulo.
According to Victor Pastrana, official at the local Department of Tourism, Gibson was sunbathing on the beautiful beaches of the Mexican state. Pastrana said, "Mel Gibson is very fond of Hualtuco. Its climate fascinates him. He has publicly acknowledged that Mexico is one of the five countries in the world that can offer to its visitors hundreds of miles of wonderful beaches and marvellous coast, and he appreciates those attributes very much because he's a lover of nature." But, today, some newspapers give a different version of the story. They say that the government is using Mel Gibson's visit to promote the Mexican state and to "counterattack" the negative portrait and unwelcome publicity gained by Oaxaca after violent riots that took place last year, from May to November 2006, when around twenty persons were killed on its streets .
Yesterday, mexican papers posted a photo of Mel Gibson, escorted by Mayra Serbulo and the mexican official, Beatriz Rodriguez, adorned with the headlines "Pasea Gibson por las calles de Oaxaca" as part of the promotional campaing.
Gibson´s words "Es bonita la ciudad, se ve desde el momento que llegas" ("It´s a nice city. You can appreciate its beauty as soon as you arrive in it.") has become the perfect slogan.
AFP has asked Claudia Vazquez, spokeswoman of the Department of Tourism, whether Mel Gibson was aware that he was going to be the star of the "adverts". Vazquez has declined to comment.

With Mel Gibson and his son was Mayra Serbulo, who's a native of Jalapa de Marques. I asked Mr. Gibson whether he was thinking of shooting a film in our state, he said that for the moment he had made no plan for certain yet but he assured that he loved the city very much so he did not discard the idea."
