24 FEBRUARY 2007.- THE SATURN AWARDS
Source: Movie-online
Bryan Singer's glorious revisiting of world's greatest hero, "Superman Returns," is set for an adventure that honors the Man of Steel. The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror announced its nominations for their 33rd Annual Saturn Awards, and Superman himself leads the major league of nominees. "Superman Returns" has 10 total nominations, and just behind it is "X-Men: The Last Stand" and "Pan's Labyrinth" both tied with six total nominations. "Superman" will not be in direct competition with "X-Men" because they are listed under the separate categories, Best Fantasy Film and Best Science Fiction Film, respectively; if this weren't the case, I would say "Superman" was a lock for the win.
"Superman" nominations include Brandon Routh for Best Actor, Kate Bosworth for Best Actress, and John Ottman for Best Music. Also up for awards: "The Prestige," "V for Vendetta," and "The Fountain" for Best Science Fiction Film; "Hostel," "Slither," and "Snakes on a Plane" for Best Horror Film; "APOCALYPTO" for Best International Film and MEL GIBSON for Best Director; "Cars" and "A Scanner Darkly" for Best Animated Film. In the vast land of TV, "Smallville," "Heroes," "24," and "Lost" are all nominated for Best Network Television Series. "Battlestar Galactica," "Dexter," "Eureka," and "Kyle XY" are all nominated for Best Syndicated/Cable Series. And, Patricia Arquette earned a Best Actress nomination for "Medium."
The Awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 10th.

24 FEBRUARY 2007.- HEAD OF STATE
Source: The Rock Radio
Clint Eastwood hasn't ever played the President of the United States, but he'd have his shot if Hollywood ran America. That's the conclusion of a Fox News poll that gave 900 registered voters the choice of picking either Eastwood, Oprah Winfrey, Sean Penn, Barbra Streisand, Mel Gibson or Angelina Jolie as head of state. The former Carmel mayor took 32 percent of the vote, with Oprah a close second at 30 percent. Gibson ran a distant third with nine percent, followed by Jolie, Penn, and Streisand.

28 FEBRUARY 2007.- THE PIRATES ATTACK AGAIN!!!
In Australia, a husband and wife team are expected to face copyright charges after NSW police allegedly seized thousands of pirated CDs and DVDs - including copies of the Academy Award-winning movie Happy Feet.and pirated versions of the new Mel Gibson blockbuster, Apocalypto.
Police raided the couple's video store in Eastwood mall, in Sydney's north and seized about 5,000 movies that had allegedly been pirated, copied or counterfeited.
The offences can carry a maximum $60,500 fine for each offence and/or a five year jail term.
Inspector Jim Bilton said many of the DVDs appeared to have been imported from China and were selling for as little as $3.50 each.
Police said further arrests were likely.
AFACT's director of operations, Michael Kerin, said piracy cost the Australian film industry more than $230 million a year in lost revenue.
"More than 50,000 Australians rely on the film and TV industry for their livelihood including young people working in cinemas and video stores," he said.

Have you heard the story about the guy who bought a pirated DVD of Apocalypto, made in China, and really paid for an episode of Scooby Doo and "El Chupacabras" set in Mexico????

3 MARCH 2007.- MEL GIBSON IN PANAMA Part 2
Mel Gibson adds a new hat to his world-famous collection.
The new one is a HARD HAT, a protective hat made of hard material especially worn by workers who do building work.
We donīt know whether this hat suits him because these photos, which were taken by a fan, only show Melīs back and rear.
Indeed VERY COOL!, but if you want a hat for more general use, then we suggest a tweed hat, of which there are 12 different shapes.
Please, remember: IF YOU WANT TO GET AHEAD, GET A HAT.

6 MARCH 2007.- TWO PROJECTS IN PANAMA
|
|
PANAMA CITY, Panama (AP).- Mel Gibson, fresh off his Mexico-based epic ''Apocalypto,'' is thinking of heading south to film a movie in Panama, tourism officials said Monday.
Gibson dined Sunday night with Ruben Blades, a tourism spokesman and singer, who suggested his next project should be a remake of the 1950 film noir ''Panic in the Streets,'' set in Panama, the Panama Tourism Bureau said in a news release.
Panamanian filmmaker Jose Severino was quoted in Monday editions of the daily newspaper La Prensa as saying that he was in negotiations with Gibson to produce a movie about Spanish explorer Vasco Nunez de Balboa, the first European to see the Pacific Ocean from its eastern shore.
The tourism bureau said Gibson and Blades spoke of the actor-director's experience directing ''Apocalypto,'' an epic movie about the demise of the Mayan civilization. The movie was filmed in the jungles of the Gulf coast state of Veracruz, and was released last year.

6 MARCH 2007.- NEW COLLAGE BY JACKISE ROMAGNY
|
7 MARCH 2007.- THIS AND THAT
- PLACE YOUR BETS!.-Mel Gibson is up to his old tricks again - scouting locations for his next blockbuster, a remake of the 1950s film noir Panic in the Streets, reports the International Herald Tribune in a story picked up by Moviehole. Gibson, and his 24-year old son Edward, alluded to his new film while dining with a tourism spokesman and singer Ruben Blades in Panama, reported a Panama Tourism Bureau news release.
On the other hand, filmmaker Jose Severino was quoted in a daily Panama newspaper, La Prensa, saying that he was in talks with Gibson to produce a film about the first Spanish explorer traveling to see the Pacific Ocean from the New World.
Whether the Panama Tourism Bureau indulged itself a bit to boost business or not, one fact remains, Gibson was in Panama on some film-related business. From the sound of it, the tale of Spanish conquistador Vasco Núņez de Balboa sounds more like Gibson's current style than a remake.
- SOLD OUT!.- The brown, hooded cloak worn by Obi-Wan Kenobi in the "Star Wars" films - and then forgotten for years in a warehouse - sold for $104,000 to an anonymous telephone bidder yesterday at an auction of movie and TV memorabilia.
Audience members raised their paddles in rapid succession as costumes flashed across TV screens at Bonhams, a British auctioneer, as staff fielded phone bids from all over the world. When the hammer dropped on a Bond girl's catsuit or Anthony Hopkins' army uniform, men in dark blazers whispered the prices into their cell phones.
"It's nerve-racking, of course it is," costume collector Kamran Raja said as the outfits from "Evita", which starred Madonna, were auctioned off.
The auction's main attraction was the hooded cloak worn by Sir Alec Guinness in "Star Wars," but other eye-catching costumes included Mel Gibson's kilt from "Braveheart" and the James Bond dinner jacket from "Thunderball," which sold for $64,700.
