10 JULY 2006.- DOWN WITH CLEANFLICKS
On Thursday, a federal appeals court judge ruled against CleanFlicks and similar companies, which edit popular movies on DVD to remove language and scenes that they find offensive and then rent or sell these versions to customers and even to some video stores, on the grounds that they cause "irreparable injury to the creative artistic expression in the copyrighted movies."
The companies are ordered to turn over their inventory to movie studios within five days. Last year, various Hollywood groups, including Mel Gibson, filed suit against these companies for violation of copyright laws
The article on the ruling does not mention whether it will affect DVD players like ClearPlay that contain filters you can use to block certain types of content from specific movies.

14 JULY 2006.- ACADEMY AWARDS
www.TheEnvelope.com published an extense article on next Academy Awards best picture race. Its author has listed ,in alphabetical order, 43 "candidates". One of these films is "Apocalypto" So make your bet and send us your prediction. How many nominations do you think that Apocalypto will receive next year?. Click below, please.

------------------------------------------
"Now that we've crossed the midway point of the year, it's time to start taking stock of the field for the next Academy Awards best picture race.
Too early, you say? Not at all. At this point last year, remember, "Crash" had already been starting conversations and building a quiet buzz for more than a month.
So how do you spot the films that figure to be contenders for the Oscar derby? Start by checking their pedigree. Consider, for instance, the director. Oscar-overdue Martin Scorsese has another major release, so his film, "The Departed," makes the list. Steven Soderbergh won best director for "Traffic," but still aims for the picture prize -- thus "The Good German" is a good bet.
And considering how much voters love actors-turned-directors, two past champs are back in the running: Mel Gibson ("Apocalypto") and Clint Eastwood ("Flags of Our Fathers"). And there's another decorated actor who's relatively new to directing: Robert De Niro ("The Good Shepherd").>BR>
Other leading candidates resemble past champs (Does "Dreamgirls" = "Chicago"?) while some have already proved their awards' prowess (this year's Tony award darling "The History Boys").
Here, in alphabetical order, is a roundup of 43 films that Oscarwatchers will be tracking closely over the next six months.
"All the King's Men": Sean Penn portrays a popular Southern politician corrupted by power in a remake of the 1949 classic that won Oscars for best picture, actor (Broderick Crawford) and supporting actress (Mercedes McCambridge). (Sony Pictures) Sept. 22
"Apocalypto": Following the surprise success of "Passion of the Christ," Mel Gibson directs and writes another bloody drama performed in an obscure language. This time the language is Mayan and the ancient Mexican culture is beset by a religious campaign of human sacrifice. (Disney) Dec. 8, 2006.
AND THE LIST GOES ON AND ON.............................

By the way, we´re already preparing our special blended beer to celebrate the success of "Apocalypto".

14 JULY 2006.- MEL WILL FINANCE NEW HOUSES IN VERACRUZ
Mel Gibson has informed Fidel Herrera Beltrán, Governor of the state of Veracruz, that he will finance housing for needy families in the municipalities of San Andres Tuxtla and Veracruz.
The Rotay Club and The DIF will be in charge of the whole project.
Gibson has wanted to thank Veracruz for all the support and help that local people have given him during these months.
He has also remarked the beuaty of the scenery, which has struck him deeply, and the good working conditions, high level of security and professionalism he has found everywhere. Gibson has promised to come back in the future. Probably to shoot a new film in the area.
Mel Gibson has affirmed that he had felt like home.

15 JULY 2006.- DONATION
Mel Gibson, about to wrap up the filming of his Mayan epic, "Apocalypto," in the jungles of Mexico's Veracruz state, is donating money to build houses for poor people in the region.
The director-actor will donate the money through the Rotary Club and Mexico's family welfare agency, government officials announced Thursday.
Officials said the donation will be used to construct homes for poor residents of the port city of Veracruz and the city of San Andres Tuxtla.
Gibson began filming "Apocalypto," which follows the journey of a Mayan hero on the run through the rain forests of pre-Columbian Mexico, last fall.
This is not Gibson's first demonstration of generosity in Mexico. Last October, he met with President Vicente Fox to announce that he would donate $1 million to help Mexico recover from Hurricane Stan.
Hurricane Stan and related storms left more than 1,500 people dead or missing in Central America and Mexico.
|
20 JULY 2006.- THE END
Last Saturday Mel Gibson finished shooting APOCALYPTO in the state of Veracruz.
Gerardo Taracena, who plays Middle Eye, admits that the shoot has been more difficult that he thought it would be.
They have endured intensive working days, which began at 4 am and went on for more than 15 hours. The fatigue got on Mel Gibson's nerves from time to time and he didn't keep his temper, although he usually was a nice "boss".
"I've lost weight, quite ten kilos, although we have stuck to a balanced diet: vegetables, fish and tons of water. Now I need a holiday. I think I deserve a rest," says Taracena.
Mel Gibson has come back to USA where he's very busy with the post-production of the film, which will be released next December.
According to Prospero Rebolledo, Mel Gibson liked escaping from the security guards, that local authorities had appointed to look after him, and spent his free time dancing in "Mambo Café" and "La Casona" while his desperate bodyguards tried to find him.
Mr. Rebolledo has also said that some businessmen have shown a great interest in the pyramids. They're planning to build new ones in Orizaba in order to attract the attention of filmmakers to the area.
CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYBODY (especially we congratulate ourselves on having survived these *suffocating* months) and GOOD LUCK!!!.

21 JULY 2006.- MEL´S HAIR
www.dailymail.co.uk publishes a passionate article entitled: "MEL AND THE HAIR THAT WAS LOST AND FOUND".
Its author makes a thorough study of Mel Gibson´s hair. No, ladies and gentlemen, the guy is not triying to promote a new shampoo or a miraculous lotion. This guy is a sensible person who has a praiseworthy interest in essential matters.
We recommend eagerly its reading and subsequent meditation on this subject.
---------------------
The 50-year-old actor appears to have experienced a quite miraculous transformation in the trichological department.
And where, just a few years ago, the Braveheart star boasted a decidedly thinning mane - and two quite prominent bald side patches - today he is the proud owner of a veritable expanse of hair.
Instead of a greying, thinning crew cut of two years ago, the casually attired double Oscar winner was photographed with a thick, dark head of hair.
Grinning from ear to ear, as the star emerged from the hairdressers with his new hairstyle, there were rumours that he may have more than mother nature to thank for his new look.
Last night, Leonora Doclis from the Belgravia Trichological centre in London, said: "There is no way to be absolutely sure exactly what Mel has had done but it is certainly possible to get this kind of result with treatment.
"He has probably had either a hair transplant or a top-of-the-range hair piece put in. With a hairpiece - what in the olden days was known as a toupee - the best, most natural looking hair would be made up to give him thicker-looking hair.
"Individual grey hairs can be added to match up exactly with his own hair, giving him the natural salt and pepper look which he has here.
"This method needs maintaining every two to three weeks, but with someone of Mel Gibson's stature and means, this is possible.
"The other alternative is a transplant. A unit transplant, costing up to £10,000, involves hair follicles being taken from the side of the head, where hair is naturally thickest, and inserted onto the thinning spots.
"Any scarring would be largely invisible. Whatever he has had done, Mel definitely looks the better for it." ………………………………….................
We think that these paragraphs, extracted from the text, have provided you with all the information you need to discuss this controversial issue with your friends and family.
By the way, here the girls agree with Mrs. Leonora. Whatever Mel Gibson has had done, he definitely looks the better for it, so CONGRATULATIONS !!!!.

21 JULY 2006.- LIBBA BRAY BOOK TRILOGY
Mel Gibson and Bruce Davey's Icon Prods. has optioned the rights to a Libba Bray book trilogy to develop as a big screen franchise and set helmer Charles Sturridge to direct the first installment, according to Variety.
The books center on four rebel teens in Victorian England who gain power from access to a mysterious realm. Sturridge will also adapt the first pic, A Great and Terrible Beauty.
The story centers on Gemma Doyle, a free spirit brought up in India who witnesses the death of her mother. At boarding school she uncovers a conspiracy surrounding her mom's death that draws her into a world of magic and deception.
The first two books in the trilogy -- A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels -- were New York Times bestsellers published by Delacorte Books. Third book is due out next year.

22 JULY 2006.- THE HIGH PRIEST, MIGUEL ANGEL GALVAN
A reporter from El Universal has interviewed Miguel Angel Gálvan, who played the high priest of Apocalypto.
The actor affirms that he obtained the role because of his strong constitution. Gálvan had to wear a heavy tuft of feathers (quite ten kilos in weight) while they were shooting the famous sequence of the trailer (see pic above). By the way, they employed a green screen to film it.
"Mel Gibson was always there. He asked me whether I could bear the weight and I answered in the affirmative, although I was completely exhausted. From time to time I thought that I was going to faint because of the effort, then Gibson approached me and asked how I was feeling or he brought me a glass of water. He's a great person," says Miguel Angel.
Galvan had been shooting for a month in Paso de Ovejas. He admits that the work was harder than he thought it would be. The make-up added three hours to each working day.
"I wore looping earlobe extensions and dental prostheses that meant three hours of extra work daily."
The high priest has said that Mel Gibson was usually in a good mood, but he flied into a temper if things didn't "go" properly.
"He controlled every aspect of the production, from the maya dialogues to the cast's health."
The set, a Mayan village, which was built in the rain forest (Catemaco), has already been demolished and new palms and trees have been planted in the zone. In fact, the Maya village had been destroyed by a "fire". The Maya warriors, of course.
|
25 JULY 2006.- THIS AND THAT
|
Icon Prods. spent around ten million dollars on wages in San Andres Tuxtla, Catemaco and Paso de Ovejas.
About 500 persons, who were hired as extras, were from Paso de Ovejas. They received a salary of 500/1,000 pesos per day during five months. This fact has benefited the whole community, where young people usually have serious difficulties in being employed
According to the major, the local authorities have solicited the donation of the Maya city, but they have not received a definite answer yet.
|
We thought that Mel Gibson had donated the pyramids last February. Either we misunderstood what Gibson said or nobody have informed the mayor about it. A great mystery!!!

28 JULY 2006.- SEVEN AND HER BOYFRIENDS.
Seven (Dalia Hernández) can´t make a decision.
According to El Universal, Seven is a girl in love with Maurico Amuy, but If you see the photo published by Time Magazine last March, the girl is having an affair with Jaguar Paw.
Dali Hernández and Rudy Youngblood
Or is she having an affair with Mauricio Amuy ????
Dalia Hernández and Mauricio Amuy
We hope that she will make up her mind before next December. By the way, don´t you think that there´s a strong resemblace between photo number one and number two???

28 JULY 2006.- ICM
Last Thursday International Creative Management bought Broder Webb Chervin Silbermann Agency, a boutique shop known for putting together such hit TV shows as ABC's "Grey's Anatomy," NBC's "My Name Is Earl" and the CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men."
ICM is one of the largest talent agencies in the world, with more than 150 agents in Beverly Hills, New York and London, and has divisions handling publishing, motion pictures, TV, music, new media and commercials. Its client roster includes such top actors and filmmakers as Mel Gibson, Denzel Washington, Woody Allen, Samuel L. Jackson and Jodie Foster.
Although neither agency would disclose terms of the transaction, which took five months to forge, people familiar with the details said it was valued at about $70 million, with ICM paying cash for the agency's assets.

28 JULY 2006.- MEL GIBSON ARRESTED FOR INVESTIGATION OF DUI
We deeply regret to inform about it. We hope things will improve very soon.
From Los Angeles Times
On Friday, Academy Award-winning director Mel Gibson was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving in Malibu after a Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy clocked him at 80 mph - twice the speed limit - on the road.
Gibson was stopped about 2:30 a.m. as he drove his 2006 Lexus Coupe near La Tuna Canyon Road.
The deputy briefly talked with Gibson and, after smelling alcohol in the car, administered breath and field sobriety tests, said Steve Whitmore, a Sheriff's Department spokesman. Gibson's blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.12%. The legal limit for driving is 0.08% in California.
Gibson was taken to the Malibu-Lost Hills sheriff's station, where he was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and released on $5,000 bail.
Department of Motor Vehicles records show that Gibson had no previous driving-related convictions or accidents in California.
Sheriff's officials declined to release Gibson's mug shot, saying the investigator wanted to temporarily withhold it, citing the ongoing inquiry. Whitmore said the widely disseminated mug shot of Nolte was released without proper authorization.
Gibson's publicists at Rogers & Cowen in Hollywood has released a brief statement saying: "At this time we don't have any information on this matter but are checking into it." His attorney, Tom Hansen, has not yet responded to an inquiry from ABC News.

30 JULY 2006.- MEL GIBSON´S STATEMENT
The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol.
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said and I apologize to anyone who I have offended.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
¡ANIMO Y ADELANTE!

31 JULY 2006.- THE FUTURE OF APOCALYPTO
A report published by Los Angeles Times questions whether the possibility of a boycott could pose serious problems for the distribution of Apocalypto although Disney executives have not yet commented about the future of the project.
According to LA Times, if Disney were to bow out of distributing "Apocalypto," there are few other easy ways for Mel to get his movie into theatres. Newmarket is now a part of Time Warner Inc., and therefore is subject to the same potential boycott pressures that could be directed at Disney.
The only truly independent distributor with substantial pull is Lions Gate Films, which has a history of distributing movies Disney wants no part of. Lions Gate released two films, "Dogma" and "Fahrenheit 9/11," that were originally to be distributed by Disney's Miramax Film Corp.
The report goes on saying that Gibson lacks the experience, infrastructure and clout to distribute films himself and remarks that it is unclear how Mel's arrest might affect his participation in the film's post-production.
By the way, Icon Distributions is in charge of the distribution of Apocalypto in Europe and Australia, so europeans and aussies will have no problem to see the film.
As for Mel Gibson, he's expected to appear in court Sept. 28 on his misdemeanour DUI charge.
Gibson, who has long been a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, has already begun rehabilitation.
|
31 JULY 2006.- ABOUT RUMORS
Last Friday, the sheriff's department said Gibson was arrested without incident or special treatment.
"There is no cover-up. Trying someone on rumor and innuendo is no way to run an investigation, at least one with integrity." Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.

31 JULY 2006.- OUR OPINION
We´re not going to minimize Mel Gibson´s behaviour but please, before judging him, remember that he´s just a human being with his lights and his shadows.
"LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT BLAME CAST THE FIRST STONE"
Thanks,

1 AUGUST 2006.- ABC, DISNEY AND APOCALYPTO
The ABC television network has pulled a miniseries about the Holocaust it was developing with Mel Gibson's production company, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, quoting an unidentified representative for the network.
An ABC representative told the paper, without elaborating, it has been two years and the network still has not seen a script, so the project is being pulled.
A spokesperson for ABC, which is owned by Walt Disney Co., could not be reached for comment.
Disney's movie studio arm still plans to release Gibson's self-financed Mayan-language movie "Apocalypto" on December 8, Hollywood's trade papers reported. The Web site Slate.com quoted Walt Disney Studios president Oren Aviv as saying he accepted Gibson's apology.

1 AUGUST 2006.- MEL GIBSON
|
Mel Gibson has checked into a rehabilitation program following his drunk driving arrest.
"Mel has entered into an ongoing program of recovery. The guy is trying to stay alive," publicist Alan Nierob said in a short statement made to AFP Monday.
Nierob declined to provide any details about the program.
WE WISH YOU WELL. GOOD LUCK!!!
"There are episodes in my life when I´ve done things I´m not proud of, but everybody´s got good and bad in them. I´m still a work in progress. I have so any faults. I have so many weaknesses…" (Mel Gibson, 2004)

2 AUGUST 2006.- MEL GIBSON´S SECOND APOLOGY
Abraham H. Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League and other Jewish leaders have accepted Mel Gibson's second apology for making anti-Semitic remarks during a drunken driving arrest early Friday.
MEL GIBSON´S SECOND STATEMENT
"There is no excuse, nor should there be any tolerance, for anyone who thinks or expresses any kind of anti-Semitic remark. I want to apologize to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested on a DUI (driving under the influence) charge.
I am not a "bigot". Hatred of any kind goes against my faith.
I am not just asking for forgiveness. I would like to take it one step further, and meet with the leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one-on-one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing."
Gibson also acknowledged "there will be many in that community who will want nothing to do with me, and that would be understandable. But I pray that that door is not forever closed."
He said he must take responsibility for making anti-Semitic remarks because as a public person, "when I say something, either articulated and thought out, or blurted out in a moment of insanity, my words carry weight in the public arena."
---------------------
"This is the apology that we had sought and requested," said Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League.
"We are glad that Mel Gibson has finally owned up to the fact that he made anti-Semitic remarks, and his apology sounds sincere," Foxman told the Los Angeles Times.
He added that his group was ready to "help him with his second rehabilitation, to combat this disease of prejudice" once his alcohol recovery program is complete.
|
2 AUGUST 2006.- THIS AND THAT
- According to some reports, Mel Gibson´s relapse might have begun a few months ago while he was shooting Apocalpto in the state of Veracruz (Mexico)
Unexpected complications prolonged the production by four months (from April to July).
- ABC television network, which has canceled a miniseries about the Holocaust it planned to produce with Gibson's Icon Productions, said in a statement released Tuesday that the decision was made because Gibson had failed to produce a script for the show in time.

3 AUGUST 2006.- LIST OF CHARGES
Mel Gibson was charged on Wednesday with driving under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said.
Gibsonis free on bail but is set for an arraignment on the charges on September 28 in Malibu. If convicted, Mel faces up to six months in jail, the district attorney's office said.
LIST OF CHARGES FILED AGAINST MEL GIBSON
The three-count complaint filed against Mel Gibson by Los Angeles County prosecutors:
Count 1: Misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The count alleges Gibson was under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.
Count 2: Misdemeanor driving while having a 0.08 percent or higher blood-alcohol level.
Count 3: Possession of an open container of alcohol while driving in a motor vehicle on a highway.
All allegations are violations of the California Vehicle Code. Count 3 is an infraction rather than a misdemeanor.
|
3 AUGUST 2006.- NO JAIL
Two of LA's best criminal lawyers agreed it was unlikely Gibson would be jailed if convicted.
His good record coupled with no aggravating circumstances involved in the charges would most likely lead to Gibson being sentenced to three years' probation, they said.
"Usually there's no jail time involved," Stephen Fisch, a West Hollywood criminal lawyer, said.
Gibson was reportedly arrested for driving under the influence in Canada in 1984, but Mr Fisch said that, under Californian law, convictions older than 10 years would not influence his present case.
"It was 1984; he is well over the 10-year limit," Mr Fisch said.
Steve Sitkoff, a partner of Beverly Hills law firm Takakjian, Sowers & Sitkoff, said Gibson, if convicted, could face fines of about $US1700 and possibly some community service.
Gibson could also be ordered to attend a school for drink drivers once a week for three months, attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and be banned from driving for 30 days, Mr Sitkoff added.
One of California's most powerful anti-drink driving punishments is the Hospital and Morgue program (HAM).
"It's a two-day component," Mr Fisch explained.
"One day you are at a hospital, the second day you are at a morgue.
"It's pretty common for district attorneys to add this on to a plea deal."
|
3 AUGUST 2006.- NEVER IN CATEMACO
"Mel never got drunk while he was shooting Apocalypto in Catemaco".
In the evenings he left the hotel and went to a pub where he played billiards with his pals.
"Once he drank a beer, but his fav drink was a bottle of water. He spent his spare time playing and teaching his friends some tricks," has said a waiter of the local pub.
He also liked dancing.
On Sundays, Mel used to go to "Catemaco Café" where he talked about the production with his team and played cards.
"He usually ate "quesadillas" and drank soda water. He was very kind, played with the children and let fans take pictures of him".
But he had the habit of driving his car at breakneck speed. "I think he felt a bit lonely."
|
4 AUGUST 2006.- MEL GIBSON
From: http://www.newswithviews.com/baldwin/baldwin314.htm
Gibson's enemies even overlook the fact that instead of sending his publicist to handle the media (as most Hollywood stars would do), he personally took responsibility for his actions and comments. In fact, his humility and contriteness in the matter have been quite remarkable!
In addition, Gibson has admitted to a long-standing problem with alcohol addiction, and he has apologized profusely for his anti-Jewish words spoken in a drunken stupor. He has even said he was willing to meet with Jewish leaders in order to facilitate a healing. What more can the man do?
The answer is obvious: the Hollywood elite don't care how sincere or how repentant Gibson is; they want Mel Gibson's crucifixion! I believe the American people will see through Hollywood's hypocrisy and hatred and will find it in their hearts to forgive Gibson's foolishness. At least I certainly hope so.
|
4 AUGUST 2006.- MAURICIO AMUY
WENN reports that Mexico City-based actor Mauricio Amuy Tenorio became one of Gibson's closest confidantes on the film set - and he insists the image he has of the Hollywood star is the complete opposite of the boozy anti-Semitic character all the world's media is currently writing about.
Appearing on the TV show Extra last night (03Aug06), he said, "I never heard Mel say on the production... 'I hate Jewish (people) ... I never saw Mel drunk, maybe he had two or three drinks."
Tenorio also says he never heard anti-Semitic remarks from Gibson while on the film set in Mexico. "I don't want to say that he's anti-Jewish," he says.
|
4 AUGUST 2006.- FRIENDS DEFEND MEL GIBSON
Devlin and Foster defend Mel Gibson.
Movie producer Dean Devlin said he and his wife are Jewish, and he considers Gibson one of his best friends in Hollywood.
"If Mel is an anti-Semite, then he spends a lot of time with us, which makes no sense. But he is an alcoholic, and while that makes no excuse for what he said, because there is no excuse, I believe it was the disease speaking, not the man .I have been with Mel when he has fallen off, and he becomes a completely different person. It is pretty horrifying." Devlin said.
Jodie Foster said she does not believe that drunkenness excuses hurtful remarks, but doubts claims that Gibson is prejudiced against Jews.
"Is he an anti-Semite? Absolutely not. But it's no secret that he has always fought a terrible battle with alcoholism. Gibson is a shining example of how low you can go when you are young and still pull yourself up. He took his recovery very seriously, which is why I know he is strong enough to get through this now." Jodie affirmed.
Though it was widely believed that Gibson has been sober since the early '90s, some people close to him say he has been on and off the wagon for years.
|
5 AUGUST 2006.- TRAVOLTA AND TRUMP
Some Hollywood heavyweights are fighting for Mel Gibson.
"I had a glimpse into his personality in that Diane Sawyer interview," John Travolta revealed. "I felt he was actually looking for help and admitting a lot of vulnerabilities that he has, and HE DESERVES TO GET HELP."
John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston opened up to "Extra" at Tony Bennett"s 80th birthday party Thursday night in New York City, where The Donald and Melania told us they are also in Mel"s corner.
"Mel Gibson made a terrible mistake," Trump said. "Hopefully he can recover, he's obviously got a problem."
|
5 AUGUST 2006.- COURT
Mel will not have to go to court
The Los Angeles County district attorney's office decided to charge with the minimum he could have expected: a misdemeanour charge of driving under the influence. Should he plead no contest, Gibson will avoid the need to attend a court hearing. While the charge carries a potential sentence of up to six months, it is more common for a first-time offender to receive a fine, have their licence suspended, and serve three years probation.
|
5 AUGUST 2006.- FANS SUPPORT MEL GIBSON
About 5,000 people logged on to give their views in the unscientific survey conducted by "Access Hollywood."
Eighty-one percent said they would go to see another Mel Gibson movie, and 63 percent said they do not believe Gibson is an anti-Semite.
|
6 AUGUST 2006.- LETHAL WEAPON 5 ???
According to United Press International, Mel Gibson may be reconsidering his reluctance to do a fifth "Legal Weapon" movie.
Producer-director Richard Donner has wanted to do another movie about Gibson's character, police officer Martin Riggs -- but Gibson had little interest in reprising his role, moviehole.NET reported.
Previous studio talks had focused on how to make the plot of the next film more attractive to Gibson. Citing a source, moviehole.NET said after th recent incident Gibson might have changed his point of view.
The Web site said Gibson might be more amenable now to doing either another "Lethal Weapon" movie, or some other studio projects he has been reluctant to do in recent years.
"It's a sure-fire way of not only staying in good with at least one studio, but the fans, too," the source told the Web site.
|
6 AUGUST 2006.- JACKIE MASON
Friends of Mel Gibson have leapt vigorously to Gibson's defense, but none with more vehemence than comedian Jackie Mason, who heaped scorn on Gibson's detractors.
Appearing Friday on Neil Cavuto's Fox News show, "Your World," Mason said: "How a guy lived for 50 years is what should count, not one remark when you're drunk' What did he ever do that's anti-Jewish in his life? A whole 50 years of decency doesn't count because he made one remark? Now they say, Apologize!' But he didn't apologize enough; he should apologize a little higher. He should apologize in the morning; he only apologized at night. He should apologize at least two more times, four more times, 32 times...!"
Responding to Cavuto's suggestion that alcohol is a "truth serum," Mason said: "You've got to be a moron to claim that it's a 'truth serum.' If it's your family or your friends and they say something in a drunken state, you say, 'Hey, he was drunk,' and you forget about it. In a drunken state, you might bang your head against the wall; does that mean you really want to break your head? You might go into a car ... I want to ask you a question: Did you ever notice how people beg a guy not to drink when he's drunk and he drives anyway because he doesn't even know he's drunk and he doesn't even know he shouldn't be driving and he doesn't even know that 10 seconds later, he's dead? "
|
7 AUGUST 2006.- SWAYZE BACKS MEL
Actor Patrick Swayze today defended movie star pal Mel Gibson.
The Dirty Dancing star, 53, who has had his own problems with booze, said it would be unfair if the Aussie actor was blacklisted.
Asked during a GMTV interview if Gibson's career was finished, Swayze said: "No way. Are you kidding me? A man that talented? If anyone dares try to pull this c**p of messing with Mel's career, it's wrong and unfair. Talent deserves to be honoured. Hands deserved to be slapped if you do something stupid as well - but don't take it too far."
Gibson was charged last week with drink-driving. During his arrest, he made anti-Jewish comments for which he later apologised.
|
7 AUGUST 2006.- MADONNA WRITES MEL
Madonna has decided to pen a four-page letter to see if she can help.
A source said: "Madonna thought Mel was out of order but also in a low place, so she has written to him to try and help him."
|
8 AUGUST 2006.- REHAB
According to contactmusic.com, Gibson has been admitted to Malibu's exclusive Passages rehab centre. A former patient at the California clinic has said, "Mel will be going through hell, believing his entire world has crashed. Everyone has a daily commitment to perform. For the first week, that always means scrubbing the toilets until they shine. But if Mel sticks to his 12-step programme, admits his faults to God - or a power greater than himself - and surrenders totally, then his recovery can begin again. "Passages" has a fantastic success record with some of the savviest experts on hand to guide him through that early misery."
The strict regime includes eight-hour days of solo and group counselling .
|
8 AUGUST 2006.- HARRY SHEARER DEFENDS GIBSON
Comic actor Harry Shearer is defending Mel Gibson in the face of criticism for insulting Jews when he was arrested for drunken driving.
According to contactmusic.com, Shearer is clarifying that he doesn't want to seem like a strong defender of Gibson but adds that Gibson is one of the good guys in Hollywood.
He said: 'In my slight dealings with him, I've found him more pleasant and less upsetting than certain persons on the other side of this discussion.'

|
8 AUGUST 2006.- GIBSON´S LAWYER
Noted criminal defense lawyer, Blair Berk has joined the troupe of lawyers employed by actor-director Mel Gibson after he was arrested on driving under the influence charge.
Berk is no stranger to defending celebrities. Her famous clientele include Paul Reubens, Cameron Diaz, Lindsay Lohan and Queen Latifah and she has worked on the drunken driving cases for many rich and famous people. A Harvard Law School graduate, Berk has already defended "Saturday Night Live" comedian Tracy Morgan and "Growing Pains" child star Tracy Gold on DUI charges.
Alan Mayer, who works as a crisis management consultant to celebrities, said that Berk's name is on the top of the list of all the celebrities. "Her name is always on the short list. It is mostly word of mouth. The entertainment industry is a very small village, especially at the top. Pretty soon you build up a critical mass", he added.
Gibson's case, which will be tried at the Malibu Superior Court in California on September 28. should have been straight forward as he was a first-time DUI offender. Usually first-time offenders are given probation plus a fine and perhaps community service.

9 AUGUST 2006.- RUMOURS
According to Foxnews.com Mel Gibson's movie "Apocalypto," which Disney was supposed to release on Dec. 8, is quietly "being shopped" to other potential distributors.

9 AUGUST 2006.- NEW PROSECUTOR
Deputy District Attorney Gina Satriano replaced Ralph Shapiro, the deputy in charge of the Malibu branch of the District Attorney's Office, on the Gibson case.
The switch "was not the least bit unusual," Sandi Gibbons, the District Attorney's Office's public information officer. Supervisors routinely file cases and then are replaced by trial deputies, she said.
In past cases Satriano prosecuted singer Courtney Love and comedian Paula Poundstone
Satriano, who grew up in Malibu, took a leave from the District Attorney's Office in the mid-1990s to pitch for the all-women's professional baseball team, the Colorado Silver Bullets. Her father, Tom Satriano, was a catcher with the Los Angeles-California Angels and Boston Red Sox from 1961-70.

Despite a report from Fox News columnist Roger Friedman a Disney spokesman, Heidi Trotta, assures that the Friedman report is "absolutely not true."
Lions Gate Films also say they've not had a single conversation about acquiring the fillm. They've not even considered taking Gibson's movie off Disney's hands, let alone been approached.

Focus on The Family ministry founder James Dobson spoke in support Thursday of Mel Gibson and his film, "The Passion of the Christ," saying Gibson's drunken tirade during a traffic stop had nothing to do with "one of the finest films of this era."
Dobson said in a statement that "we certainly do not condone that racially insensitive outburst," but added "Mel has apologized profusely for the incident and there the matter should rest."

12 AUGUST 2006.- GIBSON IS WINNING THIS WAR.
Gibson is winning this war.
The latest FOX News poll finds that 6 percent of Americans say they "definitely" will not go to see Gibson's movies in the future and another 10 percent say they "probably" won't go, while eight out of 10 people say the recent incident will not make a difference to them.
Men (83 percent) are slightly more likely than women (77 percent), and Republicans (83 percent) are a bit more likely than Democrats (75 percent) to say the incident will not make a difference in their decision to see Gibson's movies.
People living in the Northeast (10 percent) are three times as likely as those in the West (3 percent) to say they "definitely" won't go to his movies in the future.
Half of Americans say the worst part of the whole episode was that Gibson was driving while drunk, 16 percent say it was that he made anti-Semitic comments and 3 percent that he was belligerent with the police officers who stopped him. One in five people (22 percent) say all aspects of the incident were equally bad.
Overall, many more people view Gibson favorably (48 percent) than unfavorably (28 percent).
And despite the amount of news coverage the event received, most people say they aren't paying that much attention to the story: 12 percent say they are following it "very closely," 30 percent "somewhat" closely and 57 percent "not very" or "not at all" closely.
Opinion Dynamics Corporation conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from August 8 to August 9. The poll has a 3-point error margin.

12 AUGUST 2006.- DISNEY AND APOCALYPTO.
The Walt Disney Co. will distribute "Apocalypto," a Mayan-language film by actor-director Mel Gibson, as planned on December 8, a Walt Disney Studios spokeswoman said on Friday.
That confirmation refutes recent media and Internet reports that family-oriented Disney wanted to sell distribution rights to the film to another studio to distance itself from the controversy over anti-Semitic remarks Gibson made when he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving last month in Malibu, California.
"It's not true," Disney spokeswoman Heidi Trotta said of the reports. Disney had no role in producing the film, a thriller with a cast of unknowns that is set in an ancient Mayan settlement and told in the Yucatec dialect with subtitles. Hollywood experts said that until his arrest, it was expected that Gibson would lead the publicity campaign for the film.
Gibson has said the story would be told through the eyes of a Mayan man, his family and village, and would touch on universal themes about "civilizations and what undermines them."

12 AUGUST 2006.- KIRK DOUGLAS AND MEL GIBSON.
Movie veteran Kirk Douglas has advised Mel Gibson to seek help from his own Catholic church leaders before speaking with rabbis and Jewish groups.
The Spartacus star writes (Daily Variety), "Mel's first apology was too contrite and seemingly not remorseful. His second was an afterthought. Mel is now ready to talk to a Jewish group or a rabbi. I disagree. He is a Catholic and appears to need some spiritual guidance. Perhaps he should talk to one of his own faith. Maybe Cardinal Roger Mahoney (Los Angeles cleric) could be a great help."
But Douglas does accept that Gibson desperately needs help for his alcoholism, which prompted his anti-Jew rant.
The movie legend adds, "This is a serious problem that Mel has to face... Mel is in a mess."
Douglas stops short of calling Gibson, himself, an anti-Semite, adding, "I don't find Mel Gibson anti-Semitic. He worked with Jews and has a lot of Jewish friends."

13 AUGUST 2006.- MINI-SERIES.
Mel Gibson has suffered another blow- his TV Holocaust mini-series may still go ahead, but with another producer.
TV executives dumped the project, based on the memoir of Dutch Jew Flory Van Beek, when Gibson made headlines with his controversial comments.
But America's TV Guide magazine insists the series could still go ahead after learning TV bosses are in the middle of secret talks with another production company.
Quinn Taylor, ABC TV's chief of movies and miniseries, backs up the reports, stating, "It is a great story and it should be told independent of Mel Gibson's views." But bosses at Gibson's production company, Icon, are resisting calls to walk away from the mini-series, Flory: Survival In The Valley Of Death

14 AUGUST 2006.- THEY THINK...
- Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, said in a statement. "Mel Gibson's apology is a model of contrition, and it reflects the genuineness of his faith. There will always be those who refuse to forgive. They are a tragic lot."
- Rev. Garry Poole, director of spiritual discovery at Willow Creek Community Church, said, "People say things when they're intoxicated that they don't necessarily mean. And I wasn't there, I didn't hear it. I met with Mel two times during pre-screenings [of "The Passion"], and I saw his heart to portray the life of Jesus the way the Bible portrays it," added Poole, who co-wrote a popular study guide to the movie. "I didn't see him as prejudiced at all in his actions or statements."
- Merritt, pastor of Cross Pointe Church near Atlanta and a former president of the 16-million-member Southern Baptist Convention, said,."Obviously Gibson´s recent comments were, to say the least, reprehensible and, as he said himself, shameful. That doesn't change my view of the Passion of the Christ or make me believe that the film was anti-Semitic. I don't believe there was any subliminal message by Mel Gibson that had any kind of anti-Semitic undertone to it at all."

15 AUGUST 2006.- SIGOURNEY WEAVER DEFENDS MEL
|
SIGOURNEY WEAVER has spoken out in defence of actor/director MEL GIBSON, insisting he was a kind and generous man when they co-starred in the 1980s. Weaver, who performed opposite the Australian in 1982 movie THE YEAR OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY, affirms, "I didn't notice any bigotry in him whatsoever. He was one of the nicest guys I've ever worked with... I can only go with what my knowledge of him was. If anything, he seemed incredibly generous to everybody. I don't really know where it comes from. It's very sad - I hope he works this out."

16 AUGUST 2006.- BRAD GARRETT BACKS MEL.
EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND star BRAD GARRETT has sympathy for MEL GIBSON in the wake of the recent incident, because he too has battled with alcohol abuse. Garrett claims he understands what the star is going through: "No one is prouder to be a Jew than me. That being said, I think everyone should be forgiven for almost anything. I think what people do in a drunken stupor has to be addressed as someone who's drunk. Listen, there are a lot of people who are sober who hate Jews. If he wants to join that club, he can. But no one should really make an assumption until he gets help." The star, who has been sober for 10 years, adds jokingly, "In the days when I used to drink, I would get drunk and yell out awful things about LETHAL WEAPON 3."

17 AUGUST 2006.- DAVID KIRKPATRICK, co-founder of Good News Holdings and former production chief of Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures.
"The American Film Institute named It's a Wonderful Life the most inspiring picture of all time. In that movie, while drunk on Christmas Eve, decent man George Bailey chastises his wife, reduces his children to tears, and destroys the living room of his home with his own hands. Suicidal, Bailey prays to God for help, seeks his family¨s forgiveness, and finds redemption. AFI voted George Bailey one of the top ten movie heroes of our time.
Mel Gibson is the gifted film-maker of both Braveheart and The Passion of the Christ. Sometimes when the gift shines brightly, we overlook the raw reality of our humanity. Like each of us, Mr. Gibson struggles with personal challenges, but his journey is highly visible. We cannot condone the behavior or language that led to his arrest. But in the aftermath, what more could a repentant person do than acknowledge his wrongdoing, sincerely apologize, ask for forgiveness, seek medical help for his disease, and initiate dialogue with those whom he has hurt?" - David Kirkpatrick, co-founder of Good News Holdings and former production chief of Paramount Pictures and Walt Disney Pictures.
