17 JANUARY 2006.- THE PYRAMID

We wonder whether Gibson´s pyramid is as pretty as these ones

According to Gustavo Sousa Escamilla, the shoot of Apocalypto has left about 20 million dollars in the area of Veracruz. Sousa added that the production will move to Tolome (Paso de Oveja) where a pyramid (an exact replica of Mayan architecture) has been built. This pyramid, where the history will develop, is easily descried from the Salmoral-Tolome highway. "The pyramid looks very impressing and pretty from the highway. It is about 30 metres high", Mr Sousa said. He mentioned that they are in contact with Icon Prod. that has already donated this construction to the state. He also explained that the shoot will probably continue for another three months and assured that Apocalypto must educate as well as entertain.

21 JANUARY 2006.-FAVORITE MOVIE STARS.

Tom Hanks is America's favourite movie star for the second year in a row, according to a poll.
The survey of 1,001 adults cited Johnny Depp as second on the list while John Wayne, who died more than 25 years ago, and Harrison Ford were tied in third spot. Rounding out the top five was Julia Roberts
The poll was released yesterday by Garris Interactive.
Clint Eastwood was in sixth place. George Clooney was eighth, followed by Sean Connery, with Sandra Bullock rounding out the top 10.
Mel Gibson fell from second place to seventh. Gibson once again was the top pick for Hispanic moviegoers, this year tying with Katherine Hepburn.
Pitt has a consolation prize--although he just missed out on a top 10 ranking, he carried the Southern states. Also missing from this year's list was last year's number six star, Denzel Washington, who rated as the favorite with African-American voters.
Harris also sampled the faves of the politically oriented. Hanks got the vote from moderates and conservatives (tying with Wayne for the latter's top pick), while liberals lent their support to Depp.
Here's the complete list of 2005's favorite movie stars, per the Harris Poll:
  • 1. Tom Hanks
  • 2. Johnny Depp
  • 3. Harrison Ford
  • 3. John Wayne
  • 5. Julia Roberts
  • 6. Clint Eastwood
  • 7. Mel Gibson
  • 8. George Clooney

31 JANUARY 2006.- "16 BLOCKS" BY RICHARD DONNER

Richard Donner's newest action thriller 16 Blocks is coming out March 3, 2006.
Richard Donner directed many Mel Gibson films (the very popular "Lethal Weapon" series, Maverick and Conspiracy Theory).
16 Blocks is a character-driven action thriller that stars Bruce Willis as Jack Mosley, a broken down NY detective assigned to escort a petty criminal (Mos Def) from the precinct to the courthouse. The seemingly simple 16 block journey becomes a test of character for them when Jack's ex-partners attempt to stop them. It's the story of how two men change each other during a tense 110-minute struggle between life and death..
The film promises to be a blockbuster and we´re sure that Donner will not disappoint the millions of fans he has all over the world.

9 FEBRUARY 2006.- CYCLING AND BOWLING????

Bowling alley moved to Mel's island.
Hollywood star and director Mel Gibson is shipping an eight-lane bowling alley to his private Pacific island in northern Fiji, a shipping company official said.
The gear is being loaded on a small local cargo ship at the port in Fiji's capital, Suva, for delivery to Mago Island, the shipping company official said.
The director of The Passion of the Christ and star of the Mad Max films purchased the 5,411-acre (2,164-hectare) Mago Island - the largest privately owned island in the Fijian archipelago - from Japan's Tokyu Corporation for about $15 million (£8.6 million) in late 2004. The Fijian government's cabinet approved the sale in February 2005.
The bowling alley came from premises operated by a Korean businessman. The first and only bowling alley set up in Fiji, it soon went out of business.
No comment could be obtained from Gibson's manager on Mago, which is located about 240 kilometres (150 miles) east of Suva.
Gibson and his family have been to the island in northeast Fiji several times since buying it.

3 APRIL 2006.- THIS SUMMER

According to figures from Exhibitor Relations Co., a movie industry research firm, box office grosses in the U.S. are up -- albeit less than 1 percent -- through March 26.
Hopes are high for a box office and attendance upswing this year. And there is reason to think that this summer could be a bonanza for Hollywood.
Sony appears to have a surefire hit on its hands with the film version of the runaway best selling novel, "The Da Vinci Code." Walt Disney hopes to replicate the success it had in 2003, when it released Pixar's "Finding Nemo" and the first "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie, with the latest Pixar film "Cars" and the sequel to "Pirates."
Other sequels that could be fan favorites are "X-Men: The Last Stand" from News Corp.'s Fox and the long-awaited "Superman Returns" from Time Warner's Warner Bros. studio
There is the potential for some sleeper hits as well.
Paul Dergarabedian, president of Exhibitor Relations Co, said one such contender is "Snakes on a Plane"and another wildcard is Mel Gibson's new movie. His follow-up to "The Passion of the Christ" is another film that, at first blush, doesn't seem like blockbuster material. It is called "Apocalypto" and is being billed as an action-adventure film about the end of the Mayan empire. Like "Passion" it will feature subtitles; the cast of "Apocalypto" will be speaking in a Mayan dialect known as Yucatec. It is said that APOCALYPTO will open in cinemas on the 25th August 2006.
Dergarabedian added that "Lady in the Water," the latest film from M. Night Shyamalan, who wrote and directed "The Sixth Sense" and "Signs," could be a hit. But Shyamalan's last movie, "The Village" did not live up to expectations.
"This summer looks very promising. But cautiously, we say every year that summer looks good," said Dergarabedian.

5 APRIL 2006.- MAULING AND COOKING.

  • Apocalypto will open in Australia on August 10. According to the Daily Telegraph, the film will feature jungle chases, battles and even a gruesome mauling of a native.
  • Richard Florczak, author of The Private Chef cookbook and personal chef to director and actor Mel Gibson, will conduct a cooking demonstration on Saturday, April 22 from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Cook's Warehouse newest location in Decatur (180 West Ponce de Leon Avenue). A book signing and mini-tasting will be held on Sunday, April 23 from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at The Cook's Warehouse Midtown store (549-I Amsterdam Ave. N.E.). And FREE !!!.

12 APRIL 2006.- "DUNNOTTAR CASTLE"

Thieves have caused serious damage to the main door of Dunnottar Castle in an attempted break-in at the fortress near Stonehaven in Aberdeenshire which was used in Mel Gibson's film of Hamlet.
Dunnottar is more than a topographical curiosity since this rock and the buildings on it have reflected in miniature much of the rich and tragic story of Scottish history. William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots and the Marquis of Montrose have all graced the Castle with their presence. Most famously though, it was at Dunnottar Castle that a small garrison held out against the might of Cromwell's army for eight months and saved the Scottish Crown Jewels, the 'Honours of Scotland', from destruction.
