5 JANUARY 2012.- SUMMER VACATION MOVE RETITLED?
Source: Moviehole
“How I Spent My Summer Vacation” has been retitled “Get the Gringo”. Moviehole has confirmed the title change with the film’s local distrib, but can’t be sure every territory will carry the new title or whether it’s just the international title.
The film looks good and does have an interesting premise – A career criminal (Gibson) nabbed by Mexican authorities is placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy – but considering the failure of Gibson’s last film “The Beaver” (though terrific) and the public’s opinion of the actor/filmmaker, anything the filmmakers/studio can do to put bums on seats, like add a slicker title to a movie, is a good move.
You guys think it’s a better title?

18 JANUARY 2012.- HOLLYWOOD LOOSENS UP TO HELP OUT HAITI
Source: wsj.com
Never underestimate the fund-raising capabilities of big time Hollywood stars. They do it fast.
This weekend at the Montage Hotel here, Sean Penn, the 51-year-old, rabble-rousing actor who has appeared in such films as "Mystic River," "Milk" and "Dead Man Walking" and "Shanghai Surprise," hosted a benefit for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization.
The event, called Cinema for Peace, was on the occasion of the second anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti. It was subtitled "Help Haiti Home with Sean Penn & Friends," and Mr. Penn clearly has many powerful friends, as only a big-time Hollywood actor can.
They include Bryan Lourd, a partner at CAA; Jeff Robinov, the president of Warner Bros. Pictures Group; Oprah Winfrey, who pledged, via satellite, to personally match $2.5 million in donations; Bill Clinton, who introduced Mr. Penn in a video; the political comedian Bill Maher who served as master of ceremonies; and film stars like Demi Moore, Leonardo DiCaprio, George Clooney, Josh Brolin and Diane Lane, James Gandolfini, Hilary Swank, Orlando Bloom, Mel Gibson (who we're surprised leaves the house these days with all the trouble he gets himself into) and Julia Roberts.
"You can't spend any time with Sean without having the reoccurring theme of Haiti come up," said Ms. Roberts at the end of the night. "There's no removing him from this conversation."
Ms. Roberts said that Mr. Penn wrote her a "very long, eloquent letter" inviting her to participate in the evening. "At the end of the letter, he wrote, 'So, wouldya?' How could I say no? You can't say no. And this is nothing compared to what Sean does for all these people."
In one of the more reported moments of the evening, Mr. Penn was named an Ambassador-at-Large to the country. "Yes, I do accept," Mr. Penn said, saying that he would prefer being called "hey, Mr. Ambassador" to "hey, you p—."
For all the allusions to cinema—Ms. Winfrey spoke of "The Wizard of Oz" and there being no place like home; Mr. Penn mentioned a screenplay in the works that would cover the rebuilding of Haiti in a similar way as movies like "Good Night and Good Luck" or "Deer Hunter" covered other issues—one of the organization's greatest supporters, and the evening's "grand benefactor" was Richard W. Hotes. Mr. Hotes, who splits his time between Seattle and Alaska, is the chief executive officer of Alaska Structures, known for constructing fabric-building systems for extreme environments.
Mr. Hotes said he and his team often help in disaster zones and had visited Haiti within the first week of the earthquake. "I saw Sean on television. He seemed disillusioned and really genuine, and we went back to Haiti with 9,000 tents," Mr. Hotes recalled.
Helping the actor "was a no-brainer. One of his models is about leaders spending time on the ground helping people. It's about getting dirty. Otherwise we're never going to understand how poverty works. I think his organization can do with a million what the rest of the world does with a billion."
The benefit ended with a particularly loose performance by the Canadian band Arcade Fire. Lead singer Win Butler jumped around on several tables—including where Mr. Penn was sitting—while singing an acoustic version of "Wake Up." We've definitely not seen something like that at a fund-raiser in Manhattan.
"New York is a little" stiff, said the fashion designer Donna Karan, who flew in for the benefit. "But I don't think there's New York. There's no L.A. either, there's just Haiti."
As he jumped around the room shaking hands and posing for photos, Mr. Penn said he'd only imagined the evening would raise around $850,000, and the $5 million it did far exceeded his expectations.
Helping reach that goal were Ms. Roberts's husband, Danny Moder, who bought, at auction, a trip to experience Haiti with Mr. Penn for $50,000. On the opposite side of the scale, the Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice—perhaps you remember his song "The Blower's Daughter" which featured prominently in Ms. Roberts's film "Closer"—paid $475,000 for Bono's "Irish Falcon" Gretsch guitar, personalized to the purchaser.
Who knew Mr. Rice, who worked as a farmer in Tuscany before embarking on his solo career, had so much cash?
Mr. Rice said he made the purchase on impulse, in the moment. "What's money?" Mr. Rice asked. "I could be dead tomorrow. I could lose everything. Money comes and goes so easily." He added that he's friendly with Bono anyway.
"Maybe I'll get him to buy it back off of me," Mr. Rice said. "I was just doing it for a laugh."

22 JANUARY 2012.- MEL ARRIVES AT THE EGYPTIAN THEATRE

22 JANUARY 2012.- MEL INTERVIEWED AT EGYPTIAN THEATRE
Source: moveablefest.com
Contrary to what some may suspect, Mel Gibson’s phone has not stopped ringing. In the midst of a nearly 45-minute conversation with the actor/director following a screening of “Mad Max” on Saturday at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, Gibson lost track of a question about how he felt about the venerable franchise when he slid his hand inside his coat pocket to check his phone.
“It’s TMZ,” teased moderator and Los Angeles Times writer Geoff Boucher, to which Gibson looked over the sold-out, 600-strong audience before responding, “I’m sure they’re here somewhere.”
It was one of just two allusions to Gibson’s personal travails in recent years, the other arriving later when Boucher, who was one of the last to do an in-depth profile of the actor circa 2010 when “Edge of Darkness” was released, asked whether he’s had trouble staying optimistic. Though the Q & A was never opened up for questions from the audience, Gibson needn’t have worried about an unfriendly crowd since there was rousing applause when he said, “Everybody gets ups and downs. It’s either sink or swim or you just don’t wake up one morning. But I kept waking up, so I figured what the f---?”
While Gibson appeared to be slightly guarded, he also was clearly appreciative of the opportunity to just talk about his films, which wasn’t limited to the “Mad Max” series despite the fact the evening’s triple bill also included “Road Warrior” and “Beyond Thunderdome.” Still, he fondly recalled how the franchise was “an education,” reminiscing about the fluky way he was first cast as the merciless Mad Max Rockatansky after taking his drama school flatmate Steve Bisley (who plays Max’s partner Jim Goose) to the audition after “I’d been out on the turfs about a week before and really had gotten into some serious trouble.” Roughed up, Gibson intrigued the casting department, who took polaroids of him and said, “Come back when you heal up. We’re looking for freaks.” When he came back three weeks later, they didn’t recognize him until he pointed to his Polaroid on their board and then won over producers by telling a joke and confirming he could drive.
Of course, Gibson would steer “Mad Max” towards being one of the highest grossing independent films of all time, scraped together on a budget of $300,000 from friends and relatives by first-time director George Miller and producing partner Byron Kennedy after the two were inspired by Miller’s experience of scraping bodies off the road as a medical student in New South Wales. The combined inexperience of all involved led to things in the first two productions that Gibson could only describe as “odd,” such as when, for instance, Miller argued with his cameraman about an illogical camera position on “Mad Max” or on “Road Warrior” where in the middle of the truck chase, an actor can be seen in the middle of the frame, “looking at the camera going, “I wonder if they can see me” that made the locked final cut. (On the other hand, Gibson confirmed the skill of the filmmakers on that same scene in "Road Warrior" when he collectively blew the minds of most of the audience when he said no one was actually moving during most of the filming of that chase.)
Yet Gibson had nothing but fond memories for those days, warmly recalling how locals in the mining village of Broken Hill where “Road Warrior” was shot thought he was strange for driving a Mini and wearing bedroom slippers around town and that Tina Turner was kind to him on the set of “Beyond Thunderdome” and she looked “really hot in that chainmail negligee” despite the crew ironically calling her “grandma.” He cited “Road Warrior as his favorite of the films, since he liked how it was almost a silent film and “with the benefit of the first one, I think they made the film they wanted to make in the first place” and though “Beyond Thunderdome” is the least appreciated of the three, he didn’t dismiss it, but he did acknowledge it went in a different direction after original producer Kennedy died in a helicopter crash before production and “George was really affected by it. It was an attempt to do something else, but I don’t know that it knew what it wanted to do.”
As for a fourth installment, Gibson said there was no thought of one during the ‘80s, but when Boucher pressed him on his involvement in the long-gestating “Fury Road,” he was careful not to give details while saying “it looked amazing” when he and Miller were planning to make it together eight years ago. Now that “Warrior” star Tom Hardy is onboard, along with Charlize Theron, Gibson appeared happy to pass the torch, saying he met with Hardy, “a firecracker” and “a very interesting actor [who] reminds me of one of my sons,” about six months ago for lunch where Hardy “maybe [asked] was is it okay?” and Gibson replied “Sure. It’s fine. Knock yourself out. I've got better things to do.”
Gibson said that last part with a smirk and added, “I’ve got a couple things on the boil.” That led Boucher to ask about two projects Gibson’s had in development, including his controversial collaboration with “Basic Instinct” scribe Joe Eszterhas for “The Maccabees,” about the Jewish army that he described simply as “an amazing story” and implored the audience to read “the last two books of the Old Testament, Maccabees one and two. It’s like a western.”
He would go into far more detail about “Berserker,” the Viking epic that once had Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star from a script by “The Departed” writer William Monahan, since he received a second draft of it the morning of the "Mad Max" screening. Those two are no longer on the film — Gibson said vaguely, “Things begin and then people wander off and do their thing and I do my thing. Where it goes from here is anybody’s guess.” Yet he added that he’s since worked on the script with “Braveheart” writer Randall Wallace from “the very first film idea I ever had,” describing how when he was 17 he studied Old Norse culture in his high school English class and was fascinated by the imagery and what it might sound like. “Then I slapped myself upside my head and said what do I know about making films?” Now that isn’t a stumbling block for Gibson, he said that the biggest question now was “how do you make a story about this particular culture,” after acknowledging to the approval of the crowd that “Vikings are very unsympathetic characters and these guys will be bad.” (And alas, Gibson clarified the helmets will not have horns – “They’re going to look real,” he said. “They’re not going to be running around like the ‘50s.)
However, those waiting for the bloody violence of “The Passion of the Christ” or “Apocalypto” might want to adjust their expectations since Boucher asked Gibson if as one of the central themes of his work if his “internal conversation” about violence has changed over the years. After some consideration, Gibson said it did change and said “there’s people far better at presenting it than I am.” He got a laugh when he continued to say, “There’s an art to that, kind of like the art of torture,” but added seriously, “The further we go, the less I want to see. It’s actually started to make me sick. But some is necessary. It’s a part of life.”
When asked if he preferred directing to acting, Gibson didn’t hesitate to say, “The most fun you can have standing up is directing” after he admitted about acting, “I guess I made my bones that way, but I don’t really think that that’s my forte. I much prefer to be behind the camera.” He went on to describe his goals as a filmmaker being “the three Es” – to entertain, to educate and to elevate – and “if you can do all those things together, you’re cooking.”
Another highlight of the evening was when Gibson shared an anecdote about when he was an up-and-coming actor that “still had the kangaroo shit on his shoes” and attended a party in New York with “Gallipoli” co-star Mark Lee where Andy Warhol had his eye on the pair and snapped their photo as he turned away, making them both wonder about “the guy with the dodgy wig taking pictures of us.” At the same soiree, Gibson met Truman Capote, who was “surrounded by really beautiful girls and had a black hat and a cloak and sunglasses on at night.” He replicated Capote’s withering voice when he said that when the famous author offered his hand and said, “I’m pleased to meet you,” and thought it was odd that when he met Marlon Brando a decade later, “He looked and sounded exactly the same.”
Then again, as Gibson added, “As we age, I keep mistaking myself for Sean Penn. I told him that the other night and he thought it was amazing too.”

30 JANUARY 2012.- CORONA SYNAGOGUE FACING FORECLOSURE ASKS GIBSON FOR DONATION
Source: CBS Local
Will a Hollywood superstar hoping to rehabilitate his public image partner with a struggling Southland synagogue?
Board members of Congregation Beth Shalom in Corona reportedly extended a proposal to actor Mel Gibson to help them save their house of worship as a gesture that they said would refute Gibson’s reputation for being anti-Semitic.
The synagogue completed the construction of its new $1.4 million facility in 2008, but quickly saw its donations plunge as the economy floundered and now faces foreclosure.
In a letter first obtained by TMZ.com, Congregation Beth Shalom president Bruce Williams asked Gibson to consider stepping in as their financial savior.
“Our proposal to you, Mr. Gibson, is since you have been cited as anti-Semitic, and have denied those allegations, what better way to prove to all your fans and the nay Sayers — than to endorse and help raise funds for our cause,” the letter read.
“Today, Mr. Gibson, we offer you to be a Mensch and make a sizable contribution to our cause,” the letter concludes.
A Gibson representative told TMZ they were unaware of the offer.
Among other projects, the Oscar-winning director has been linked to plans for a film about the life of Jewish hero Judah Maccabee.

31 JANUARY 2012.- "GET THE GRINGO" BYPASSES THEATERS
Source: Deadline. com
The acquisitions market at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival was all about deals that combined small theatrical releases with major day-and-date VOD and DVD. But no major star has dared to bypass theaters to gamble on ancillary distribution with a project that is right in his wheelhouse. Until now. Mel Gibson’s Icon Productions has made an innovative deal with 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment for a domestic direct-to-consumer release of "Get The Gringo", a south-of-the-border gritty action film that Gibson stars in and financed. The film has been set for an exclusive premiere window May 1 on DirecTV, which will charge $10.99 per home viewing. A wider release on Blu-ray, VOD, and digital download will follow later in the year. DirecTV, which has almost 20 million subscribers, has the exclusive on the film for more than a month, and it moves to other VOD menus by early summer.
Now, it might be easy to conjecture that Gibson’s recent personal issues were a reason to bypass theaters, especially after "The Beaver" grossed less than $1 million domestic. I think this is different, a ballsy move by a maverick entrepreneur whose willingness to break rules led him to self-finance the $30 million R-rated "The Passion Of The Christ" and watch it gross $371 million domestic and $612 million worldwide (still the biggest indie film of all time), and spend $40 million to fund "Apocalypto", a film that grossed $51 million domestic and $121 million worldwide.
"Get The Gringo" is an R-rated fastball down the middle for Gibson fans. Directed by Adrian Grunberg from a script he wrote with Gibson, the film has action, dark humor and plenty of violence. Gibson plays Driver, who, during a high-speed car chase with the U.S. Border Patrol and a bleeding body in his back seat, crashes into the border wall as he tries to escape. He survives, only to be placed inside a hard-core Mexican prison where he enters the strange and dangerous world of “El Pueblito.” There, he finds unlikely survival guidance from a 10-year-old kid who shows him the ropes.
Fox and DirecTV and Icon will do a national marketing campaign for the movie, which will start with a premiere screening event in Austin hosted by Ain’t It Cool News founder Harry Knowles. Knowles will preside over a post-screening Q&A with Gibson, Grunberg and Kevin Hernandez, who plays the kid in the film. Screenings will be held that night in at least 10 markets, with the post-premiere discussion streamed to those audiences. That will be the only theater penetration in the U.S. for the film. Icon is handling overseas, and some territories, including Australia and Russia, will do a traditional theatrical release.
Mel has an uncanny ability to predict audience demand for movies distributed through innovative models to the highest levels of success, most notably with "The Passion Of TheChrist" and "Apocalypto", Knowles said in a statement. “Here he once again challenges the status quo by bringing this authentic Peckinpah-ian pulpy tale directly to fans.”
Gibson hasn’t stepped away from the traditional theatrical release that made him a star with the "Lethal Weapon" films and "Braveheart" which won him Best Picture and Best Director Oscars. His Icon label is developing an epic period Viking film that Gibson will direct, and which his "Braveheart" writer Randall Wallace has just turned in a second script draft. And Gibson and Joe Eszterhas are writing for Warner Bros an epic drama about Jewish warrior Judah Maccabee, who teamed with his father and four brothers to lead the Jewish revolt against the Greek-Syrian armies that had conquered Judea in the second century B.C. Gibson will likely direct that film as well, which is also being produced through Icon.
Sources inside Icon said that Gibson sparked to the chance to road-test a new distribution model for domestic, which has a more mature VOD delivery system than offshore at this point. They went exclusively with DirecTV because, aside from its nearly 20 million subscribers, “they are a marketing powerhouse and are one of the most innovative VOD distributors,” said the sources. “We really wanted to lean into this, and they will do a very significant marketing campaign around it. It was a great way to launch this particular movie. A lot of those Sundance films going to VOD might not have a major star or be strong enough commercially to attract a wide audience. When we tested "Get The Gringo", it tested 86% in the top two boxes, with all four quadrants.”
In a statement, Fox Home Entertainment president Mike Dunn said: “As digital distribution evolves, we are constantly looking at new ways to bring the consumer greater access than ever before to our movies. Reaching nearly 20 million households on the DirecTV premium platform offers us an opportunity to explore innovative approaches like this one for "Get The Gringo”.
The benefit of VOD is that a big spend is replaced by a smaller outlay, much of which is supplied by cable system partners whose split (I’ve heard they keep between 30% to 40%) is more favorable than theater chains charge. The danger, of course, is that the film slips through the cracks, but if this works, it will become more important a test case than "Margin Call", which grossed around $10 million worldwide theatrical and did another $4 million on VOD.

6 FEBRUARY 2012.- JOE ESZTERSHAS ON MEL GIBSON: HE WANTS TO DO A "BRAVEHEART" ON JEWISH HISTORY
Source: Reuters
Joe Eszterhas, who says he's just a couple of weeks away from completing his script on the Jewish hero Judah Maccabee, says that he's convinced Mel Gibson is the right director for the project.
"At one of the early meetings," Eszterhas recalled, "Adam Fogelson, Universal Pictures’ chairman, said to him, 'Why do you want to do this story?' Mel said, 'Because I think I should.' I liked that answer very much."
Eszterhas made the comments in a Q&A with Andrew Goldman, published in Sunday's New York Times magazine.
Gibson's 2004 film "The Passion of the Christ" was viewed by many as anti-Semitic and he was quoted in a police report as saying that "the Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world" during a 2006 drunk driving arrest.
"We both saw it as Mel, maybe from his heart, wanting to do a terrific 'Braveheart'-like movie about Jewish history," said Eszterhas, who said he was comfortable working with Gibson despite his problems.
"I’ve seen him explode at guests in his houses," Eszterhas said. "And I think that his ex-girlfriend is probably right about one thing: He needs medication. To me, 'The Passion of the Christ' was not anti-Semitic. I loved it. But I am concerned about what he said to the highway patrolman. The answer is going to come when I finish the script and I see his reaction."
Though generally positive in regard to Gibson, Eszterhas, who like Gibson is Catholic, seemed to mock the idea of talking religion with him.
"Mel built this beautiful church in the Agoura Hills where the only priests who can say Mass are pre-Vatican II priests. So it’s almost like a private chapel. In my mind, his Catholicism is a figment of his imagination."

6 FEBRUARY 2012.- MEL SETTLES GREEN RUBBER SHARE SPAT
Source: Tyrepress
Celebrity news and gossip site tmz.com reports Mel Gibson has settled the tyre tech-related lawsuit brought against him by Nader Sherif. The settlement involves Gibson’s payment of an undisclosed sum to Sherif, and further details have not been made public.
The actor’s problems with Sherif date back to 2007, when it was claimed Gibson began “soliciting” him to invest in Malaysia-based Green Rubber, a company engaged in developing a rubber devulcanisation technology. Gibson allegedly discussed the issue repeatedly until Sherif was won over and invested US$200,000 in Green Rubber shares. The situation turned ugly when Sherif attempted to dispense with his shares a year later and claimed Gibson had reneged on his promise of repurchasing the shares at their original price should Green Rubber refuse to repurchase them.
Sherif’s lawsuit, lodged against Gibson in June 2011, stated that “in breach of his contract with Plaintiff, Gibson has refused to purchase Plaintiff’s shares, which has caused and continues to cause Plaintiff and his family damage and serious financial hardship.” Sherif’s lawsuit sought $200,000 plus interest at the maximum legal rate from Gibson.

6 FEBRUARY 2012.- REVIEW: TRAILER FOR "GET THE GRINGO"
Source: filmschoorejects
Remember Mel Gibson? Well he remembers and misses you. Not all of you of course, and by ‘you’ I mean exactly who you think I mean. But he misses most of you. The past few years haven’t been all that kind to the guy, both personally and professionally, but to be fair it’s mostly his own fault. Still, I couldn’t care less about his offscreen antics and behavior. I only care about the movies.
And the guy has made some great ones.
He’s found massive success as a director, but his last box office hit as an actor was Signs from a decade ago. His recent one-two punch of Edge of Darkness and The Beaver failed to generate much interest, but neither of them were really in his preferred wheelhouse of blackly comic action. The best example of his from that mini genre remains Brian Helgeland’s fantastic Payback. (His director’s cut is also quite good although it drops much of the comedy.)
Gibson’s latest is Get the Gringo (aka How I Spent My Summer Vacation), an action comedy about a criminal who heads to Mexico with a car full of cash and a dying accomplice only to get arrested by local authorities and tossed into a tough prison. Don’t worry though, he gets out.
Is it me or does this thing have a really strong Payback vibe? I’m not complaining, and I’m happy to think of it as a sequel in spirit to that 1999 film. It looks to have the same mix of action, torture and dryly comic dialogue too, and while it’s unclear if the narration in the trailer is actually in the finished film that also matches the earlier film’s tone and style. The only unfortunate thing about it is the film is set to bypass theaters in favor of a video on demand premier. It’s an interesting move for a major star (at one time at least) that finds the middle ground between theatrical and straight to DVD releases.
Get the Gringo hits VOD on May 1st, followed by a DVD/blu-ray rollout before the end of the year.

9 FEBRUARY 2012.- GIBSON ON "BESERKER" AND "MAD MAX. FURY ROAD"
Source: Moviehole
Though he lost Leonardo Di Caprio (over the actor cum director’s uneasy remarks) , Mel Gibson says he’s still determined to get his big Viking movie ”Beserker ” (sounds like a bloody video game!) to the big screen.
Gibson was speaking at the American Cinematheque in L.A when he revealed that the long-gestating project is still on.
The L.A Times have the video of the conversation; The Playlist have a transcript.
“..things begin and people wander off and do their thing and I do my thing”, Gibson said in response to Di Caprio’s exit from the picture.” I just took my stuff and wrote it with Randall [Wallace]. Where it goes from here is anyone’s guess.”
Gibson says the rogues of the sea are a people he’s really into exploring.
“Vikings, as you know, are very unsympathetic characters and these guys will be bad”, says Gibson, saying he and Randall Wallace are working on the second draft of the script.
The “Get the Gringo” star says these Vikings won’t like as they did in the old ’50s Pirates movies either. For starters, no horns.
“They did not have horns. No, I don’t think they had horns. They’re going to look real.” He continued, “They’re not going to be running around like the ’50s, I want to make something real and visceral.”
As for ”Mad Max Fury Road”, Gibson confirmed that he’s not involved, even though the storyline of it is the same as a fourth Mad Max he was going to do with George Miller in the early ’00s. He’s not sad he’s been replaced as Max, in fact, he even gave Tom Hardy his blessing.
“I like that kid [George's] got, Tom Hardy. He’s a very interesting actor. He reminds me of one my sons a bit but I had lunch with him, he’s a firecracker. It’ll be good. He was already cast [at the time], he just wanted to check in. I don’t know, maybe it was like ‘Is it okay?’ I was like ‘Sure, it’s fine. Have a ball, knock yourself out. I got better things to do.”
Gibbo’s latest, “Get the Gringo” is going direct-to-video-on-demand in May.

9 FEBRUARY 2012.- GIBSON ON HIS "MAD MAX" PAST AND NEW EPIC ASPIRATIONS
Source: Los Angeles Times
Reserved and reflective, Mel Gibson came to the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood to celebrate the legacy of his “Mad Max” films but, of course, the 56-year-old star’s recent career calamities were the silent passenger that accompanied him during the trip down memory lane.
Thirty-three years have passed since ”Mad Max” exploded on the scene with a high concept and a low budget (about $400,000) and began the minting of an international movie star. Sitting in the dark with the time-capsule moment, Gibson found it hard to recognize his 21-year-old self up on the screen. “I thought,” he said, “it was one of my kids.”
Here, you can watch the full video from the American Cinematheque event where Geoff Boucher interviewed Gibson about the career-launching franchise and you’ll hear that the conversation veered off at times to his filmmaking future, the TMZ era and the emotional wear and tear of recent seasons. There was also a lot of applause — and two standing ovations — from the sell-out crowd. And, for that, the two-time Oscar winner seemed truly thankful.

11 FEBRUARY 2012.- JODIE IS SENDING DVD SCREENERS OF "THE BEAVER" TO THE ENTIRE MEMBERSHIP OF THE ACADEMY
Source: Deadline
In an unprecedented move this late in Oscar season, two-time Academy Award winning actress and director Jodie Foster, with the help of her film's distributor Summit Entertainment, is sending DVD screeners of "The Beaver" (the Mel Gibson film she directed and co-starred in) to the entire membership of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts Sciences. Summit tells Deadline.com they expect to start shipping Monday so the Academy members should have this in their mailboxes by Wednesday.
"The Beaver". It's NOT nominated for a single Oscar or any other award for that matter. It opened and closed quickly last May in the wake of Gibson's latest scandal and grossed just under $1 million in its brief, unsuccessful U.S. run. Although reviews were mixed it did receive a 69% fresh rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes and, despite his personal woes, Gibson got some of the best personal notices of his career. But when awards season arrived Summit nixed a campaign and did not send out screeners to the Academy as they did for two other movies, "50/50" and "A Better Life" (the first screener sent to Academy members on September 7).
The fact that there were no screeners and no Oscar nominations has not deterred Foster who feels strongly about her movie and wants it to be seen by her peers. In a letter that will accompany the DVD Foster begins by writing: "It is unusual to get a screener after the Oscar nominations have been announced, as the final chapter of award season is nearing, when nearly all of this year's movies have been viewed and assessed. That is because this screener of "The Beaver" is not "For Your Consideration". It is simply for your enjoyment. Later she says: "The Beaver is an unusual film, to say the least, with a voice and tone unlike any other. Mel Gibson's performance is undeniably deep and raw. I am so proud of the work we did together"
The DVD that will be sent to Oscar voters is the commercial consumer version, usually forbidden by Academy rules. Distributors must make special screeners and adhere to strict, no frills packaging. The Academy rules also don't allow a letter to be sent as Foster is doing. In this case Summit got special permission from the Academy in order to send it out in this form. Because it has no nominations, and write-in votes haven't been permitted in decades, what's the harm?
Sure Foster wishes the film had been sent earlier to really be considered but in a phone conversation this morning she told DEADLINE.com it wasn't her decision. It "is" now and she is personally paying for all the expense of the mailing. am not the distributor. That's their decision. "It's a pretty simple desire on my part. You work incredibly hard on a movie, I've made a lot of movies and I don't think in the last twenty years since they've had the screener process, even when they had videos, I don't think I've had a movie that "didn't come out on the screener, even the ones that really honestly should not have been for any consideration", she laughed.
So why do this now? "I think it's become at the end of the year it's the way people see the films, view the films in the independent world as well as the mainstream world that they might not have gotten to any other way. It's increasingly the way people see the films. Whether we like it or not it's the way the film community really keeps up. And we had a bit of a compromised theatrical release, and Blockbuster is out of business", she says. She talked to Gibson yesterday and said he's pleased she's doing this. "I think Mel is happy as am I that this is an opportunity for just the film to be viewed and really for Mel not to be talked about, except that he gave a wonderful performance that I am incredibly grateful for. I didn't get that opportunity when it was released".
She has no animosity toward Summit for not including the film in their Oscar campaign plans. "It's their purview. I have to say I do love these guys and I have had a great experience with them, and if anything I have an even fonder feeling for them because we went through World War II together. We were in the trenches together and they were really amazing", she said.
Foster wasn't even put off at the Golden Globes (where she was a nominee for Best Actress Musical or Comedy for "Carnage") when host Ricky Gervais made her film the butt of one of his jokes. Talking about NBC's guidelines for his monologue he said, "I musn't mention Mel Gibson again;even Jodie Foster's "Beaver". I haven't seen it myself. I've spoken to a lot of guys here. They haven't seen it either. That doesn't mean it's not any good", he said as cameras caught Foster in the audience laughing harder than anyone.
"It (the Globes) was fun. We had a great time. Honestly I made a movie called "The Beaver" Do you really think there isn't a joke about it?", she says. But clearly she is happy her peers will get a chance to judge the movie on its own terms this Oscar season, even if it isn't part of the Oscar conversation.
"I didn't become an actor or director to make a hundred gazillion dollars. I make movies because it is my art form. It's the thing that I love and how I express myself. And to not be seen by the people you talk to and work with that are part of that experience is really sad. I have to say I discovered a lot of interesting movies this year that I am so glad I got to see that may not be talked about in the Oscars, may not have any consideration in the Oscars, didn't get nominations but were really enormous experiences for me and I am so glad I got that (DVD) box and was able to see them, films like We Need To Talk About Kevin, Martha Marcy May Marlene, In The Land of Blood and Honey. would not have seen them any other way", she says.
And now she's hoping her peers will discover her lost film the same way.

15 FEBRUARY 2012.- WILL MEL GIBSON MAKE CAMEO?
Source: Eonline
Cameras are finally gearing up to start shooting on director George Miller's upcoming Mad Max movie starring Charlize Theron.
And although Tom Hardy will be replacing the franchise's original star Mel Gibson as the title character, we've been wondering: will Mel be making a superstar cameo in the highly anticipated action flick?
Well, we got an answer...
"Nope," Gibson recently told us at the Angels at Rick charity benefit in L.A. "I've got nothing to do with it. George, he's filming in Namibia or something."
But that doesn't mean he wouldn't want to. "It would be fun to fly to Namibia and be a snake in the background or something," he laughed.
Gibson says he's really excited for the franchise's fourth installment, even if he isn't a part of the upcoming flick. "I think it's going to be great," he said. "George is a genius."
Meanwhile, Gibson was just one of the celebs, including Ted Danson, Ray Liotta and Taylor Armstrong, who came out to support Angels at Risk, a charity that works with the prevention and treatment of alcohol and drug abuse among youths.
"It's a good cause and substance abuse is an epidemic in this country at the moment," he said. "I mean it is the devil really. Substance abuse is the devil. And I've been through my own little trials so I feel empathy with it."
X Factor finalist Chris Rene, who has overcome drug addiction himself, says he now has "incredible experiences" with fans who are seeking help with addiction and recovery since his stint on the show.
"Because I've done it, they see the inspiration," he told us. "They're like, 'We're going to do the same thing you're doing.' Mothers come up to me and tell me their kids are in rehab, that they want to change and they're actually doing something. It happens on a daily basis."

17 FEBRUARY 2012.- GIBSON TRIED TO HELP WHITNEY HOUSTON BEAT DRUG DEMONS
Source: Contactmusic
Mel Gibson reached out to Whitney Houston and tried to help the tragic superstar overcome her personal issues at the height of her drug troubles, according to a new report.
The Braveheart star previously came to the aid of Britney Spears following her public meltdown in 2008 and offered up his estate in Costa Rica as a refuge for the pop star to recover from her struggles away from the spotlight.
Now Tmz.com reports Gibson also attempted to come to the rescue of Houston while she battled an addiction to cocaine, marijuana and other drugs in the early 2000s.
Website editors claim the actor visited Houston and spent time with her to help her beat her drug demons, and his efforts have landed him an invitation to attend the singer's private memorial service on Saturday (18Feb12).
However, Gibson will not be able to join reported guests Kevin Costner, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder at the funeral in Newark, New Jersey due to family plans.
Houston died last weekend (11Feb12). Her cause of death has been deferred pending toxicology results.
The singer will be laid to rest on Sunday (19Feb12), a day after her funeral.

21 FEBRUARY 2012.- GIBSON AT PARTY FOR H&M
Source: Fashionista
Sofia Coppola, Winona Ryder, Freida Pinto, Lou Doillon, Jessica Chastain…name a fashionable young starlet and they were there at Friday night’s launch party for H&M’s latest collaboration with Italian label Marni–decked in the new collection. So was Mel Gibson but he wasn’t wearing Marni for H&M. He just crashed because, we were told, he heard it was a really good party.
And it was. We may be in the middle of fashion month with London Fashion week in full swing, but Los Angeles stole the fashion spotlight this weekend.
The setting was the John Sowden house, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright’s son, Lloyd Wright, and known in LA as the “Jaws House” because the angular appendages on the front of the house looks like a shark’s mouth, ready to chomp. (It’s also the house where the model’s live on America’s Next Top Model, but the new cast mates weren’t around.) The house is located in LA’s Los Feliz neighborhood, a hipster-y Brooklyn-ish nabe, and so a fitting place for Marni’s un-flashy un-LA aesthetic.
There was no fashion show for H&M’s latest designer collaboration like there was for Versace and Lanvin–but why put on a runway show when you can enlist all the hottest young actresses and It-girls to serve as models? Seeing Rashida Jones having a tete-a-tete with Jessica Chastain in their printed silk frocks, Lou Doillon wafting about in the printed pajama set cinched at the waist with a red belt, and Elisa Sednaoui head-banging to Bryan Ferry in printed pants and a leather jacket (his music provided the soundtrack to Coppola’s commercial for the line), made the clothes come to life in a way that a runway never could.
We stopped one such starlet, Brit actress Imogen Poots, to ask her about her turn as model for the Sofia Coppola directed commercial and print campaign for the line. “I’m not someone who’s very educated in fashion and that’s probably through choice actually,” she confessed, seemingly wary of the fate that befalls actresses who become known more for their fashion sense than their acting. Working with Sofia Coppola was the selling point for Poots. “This Marni project appealed to me because Sofia Coppola is really a hero of mine and that was an immediate draw.” Coppola, she added, “captures boredom better than anyone.”
Coppola herself looked glowing in the matching gold print Marni for H&M top and pants, and said she was intrigued by the project because she “loves Marni” and “had never done anything for fashion before.” It seems an odd thing to say coming from Coppola who has directed Dior Cherie commercials before, designed for Louis Vuitton, is besties with Marc Jacobs, and is someone whose all-around style (and hair!) is revered by fashionistas like us. But when we mentioned this to her, about how much people love her style, she seemed totally surprised and a bit flustered–and gracious, of course.
Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni said she had never considered designing a collection for a mass retailer until H&M approached her last March, but had “no hesitations” about going ahead with it. “I think it was a nice experience and you can reach the young generation,” she said. “I think this is very nice that they can afford and appreciate what we do.” Castiglioni said she didn’t have to change her design approach at all and made sure all the key elements of her brand–”the mix of fabrics and prints”–were there and that the quality is “really really really good.” Trust us, she’s right.

18 MARCH 2012.- "BRAVEHEART" TV ADAPTATION IN THE WORKS
Source: The Inquisitr
Mel Gibson’s role as William Wallace in 1995's theatrical epic Braveheart made the historical figure famous, and now it looks like Wallace’s tale is once again going to be told, but this time on the small screen.
STV Productions is said to be developing the series, with Mick Davis, who worked on Patrick Stewart’s The Eleventh Hour, is reportedly taking on the role as lead writer for the TV adaptation of the Braveheart story.
ScreenRant reports:
In a joint effort, the historical drama will be executive produced by Creative Media’s Todd Berger and Andrew Trapani, as well as STV Productions’ Alan Clements and Margaret Enefer, plus Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment, with Digital Rights Group handling worldwide distribution.
According to STV Productions, the Braveheart TV series will follow Wallace along on his adventures prior to the events of the original Braveheart movie starring Gibson. The story will take on a more personal look at Wallace as he fights to unify Scotland.
Alan Clements, director of content at STV productions, had this to say about the upcoming Braveheart television series:
This was a turbulent time in Scotland’s history, in which William Wallace had a starring and pivotal role.
We plan to delve deep into his character and explore his passions, bringing parts of history to life in a spectacular and raw depiction. With all eyes on Scotland in the current political climate, this also seems to be a very appropriate time to tell this story in more depth.
STV Productions has yet to secure a network for the Braveheart series, but the developers are hoping that the series will be able to land on premium networks such as HBO, where they won’t be constrained by censorship.
Are you looking forward to the Braveheart TV series.

"Look who @drpaulnassif and I ran into last night, our friend the very talented Mel Gibson!" Adrienne shared on Twitter with her fans and attached one of the pictures they took with him. This isn't the first time this couple runs into celebrities. They also spotted Charlie Sheen not too long ago.

25 MARCH 2012.- MEL GIBSON SELLING HIS COSTA RICA RETREAT
Source: Chicago Tribune
Actor-director Mel Gibson is putting his sprawling hilltop compound in Costa Rica up for sale, with a $29.75 million asking price, .
The Oscar-winning "Braveheart" director, who has suffered a series of public embarrassments in recent years after a decades-long reign as a top box office star, is selling the 500-acre compound to downsize his real estate portfolio following his divorce.
Christie's International Real Estate, the luxury real estate firm, was set to announce the offering on Friday.
Gibson's Pacific coast compound, on Playa Barrigona on Costa Rica's Nicoya Peninsula just south of the Nicaragua border, boasts three hilltop homes, the largest of which has seven bedrooms, with soaring ocean and jungle views.
Each villa on the former cattle ranch is outfitted with native Costa Rican woods and Italian and Spanish tiles and features multiple verandahs and a private pool.
"The property is expansive, meticulously maintained, and ultimately private," said Rick Moeser, Christie's real estate senior vice president for the Southeast, Caribbean, Central and South America.
"With its multiple homes and outbuildings, this is the ideal family retreat," Moeser added of the pristine property that includes an expansive beach.
Gibson, 56, has seven children from his long marriage which ended in divorce in 2009 after his drunk driving arrest in Malibu. He also has one child with Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva, with whom he had an acrimonious breakup.
The star and his large extended family had used the estate frequently before the troubles in his personal life. He reportedly retreated to the holiday home during his legal troubles with Grigorieva. Gibson was also photographed with her there in 2009, shortly before his wife filed for divorce.
Over the years the actor has owned lavish properties in Malibu, Australia, Montana, Connecticut, and even a private island in Fiji.
Actor Mel Gibson has lowered the price of his Costa Rican property to $29.7M. The remote estate is set on 500 acres of privately owned jungle overlooking the Pacific Ocean and features three separate villas each equipped with their own pool and are just steps away from a private white-sand beach.

28 MARCH 2012.- RICHARD DONNER ON "LETHAL WEAPON 5"
Source: Empire
In the upcoming issue of Empire, there's something very, very special for all of you Lethal Weapon fans out there. We brought together Mel Gibson, Danny Glover and director Richard Donner for a Lethal Weapon reunion to mark the first film's 25th anniversary. The result was one hell of a photoshoot, which saw Gibson rock up in a white Smart car and Glover sporting a natty pair of Five Fingers shoes.
All the pictures and full interview can be found in the magazine - on shelves this Thursday, March 29 - but just to give you a taste of what's inside, here are a few quotes that should whet your appetite. Namely, Richard Donner and Mel Gibson talking about what might have been with Lethal Weapon 5:
Empire: "Were there any sequel ideas that didn't come to pass?">
Donner: Lots. There was a fifth one that I would have loved to have made. Shane Black wrote another treatment, which I never saw..
Gibson: I saw it. I saw everything.
Donner: Oh. But we had a totally different story. The two crazies decide to cool their lives, but it's impossible for them to stay out of situations. It starts with Riggs and Murtaugh out in the country in a motorhome. They're on a trip and they stop to get gas, but Roger forgets to put the brake on. So the motorhome rolls through a village, annihilating everything, and they get in serious trouble. It had a lot of heart, a lot of family. Rene (Russo, who played Lorna Cole), Darlene (Love, who played Trish Murtaugh), they would all have come back.

13 APRIL 2012.- ESZTERHAS: GIBSON SAID JOHN LENNON DESERVED TO BE SHOT
Source: TMZ
Mel Gibson celebrates John Lennon's death, claiming he deserved to die ... this according to the screenwriter of the failed "Maccabee" project, Joe Eszterhas.
In a scathing 9-page letter, obtained by The Wrap, Eszterhas also claims Mel once ranted about the departed John Lennon (The Beatles", "I'm glad he's dead. He deserved to be shot. He was f**king messianic. Listen to his songs! Imagine. I hate that f**king song. I'm glad he's dead."
According to Eszterhas, Mel saved his true fury for Oksana Grigorieva, saying, "I want to f**k her in the ass and stab her while I'm doing it."
And on the business side, Eszterhas claims Mel said this of Ari Emanuel, the head of the William Morris Endeavor Agency: "He's a c*nt Jewboy."
Mel has fired back at Joe, claiming the letter is a pack of lies.

13 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON DENIES JOE ESZTERHAS SABOTAGE CHARGE
Source: Reuters
Mel Gibson has slammed the accusations of 'Maccabees' screenwriter Joe Eszterhas that he is anti-Semitic and insists that the real issue for plugging the plug on the movie was that the script was "terrible".
The 'Braveheart' director, responded to Eszterhas allegation in a letter which says that most of the charges being made by the writer was fabricated.
"I will say that the great majority of the facts as well as the statements and actions attributed to me in your letter are utter fabrications," TMZ quoted Gibson as writing in the letter.
The 56-year-old acknowledged that he recently lost his cool with him during a conversation about the movie.
"I did react more strongly than I should have.
"I promptly sent you a written apology, the colourful words of which you apparently now find offensive. Let me now clearly apologize to you and your family in the simplest of terms," he said.
The acclaimed actor, then proceeds to give vent to his frustrations with Eszterhas' writing.
"Not only was the script delivered later than you promised, both Warner Brothers and I were extraordinarily disappointed with the draft. In 25 years of script development I have never seen a more substandard first draft or a more significant waste of time."
In his letter, Gibson never specifically addresses Eszterhas' claim that he "hates Jews" or made anti-Semitic statements.
Gibson also addressed Eszterhas' claim that he wanted to get back in the good graces of the Jews.
"Contrary to your assertion that I was only developing Maccabees to burnish my tarnished reputation, I have been working on this project for over 10 years and it was publicly announced 8 years ago," Gibson said.
"I think that we can agree that this should be our last communication," he ended his letter.
Earlier, Eszterhas had claimed that Gibson was sabotaging efforts to make a movie about Jewish biblical hero Judah Maccabee because he "hates Jews".
"I've come to the conclusion that the reason you won't make 'The Maccabees' is the ugliest possible one. You hate Jews," Eszterhas said.
The letter has been obtained by TheWrap.com.
"You continually called Jews 'Hebes' and 'oven-dodgers' and 'Jewboys.' It seemed that most times when we discussed someone, you asked 'He's a Hebe, isn't he?' You said most 'gatekeepers' of American companies were 'Hebes' who 'controlled their bosses'," the letter said.
"You said the Holocaust was 'mostly a lot of horses**t.' You said the Torah made reference to the sacrifice of Christian babies and infants. When I told you that you were confusing the Torah with The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, ... you insisted 'it's in the Torah -- it's in there!' (It isn't)," Eszterhas wrote.
He further claimed that the only reason Gibson wanted to make "The Maccabees" so he could "convert the Jews to Christianity."
In his letter, Eszterhas says he witnessed the actor rail about his ex-GF and baby mama Oksana Grigorieva ... saying, "You were raving at Oksana even after you'd reached a custody agreement over Luci."
He also claims Mel once ranted about the departed John Lennon (The Beatles", "I'm glad he's dead. He deserved to be shot. He was f**king messianic. Listen to his songs! Imagine. I hate that f**king song. I'm glad he's dead."

Oscar winner dismisses screenwriter's claim that he's only working on 'Maccabees' film to deflect anti-Semitism charges, says statement is 'fabrication'
Mel Gibson fired back Thursday at screenwriter Joe Eszterhas for accusing the "Braveheart" star of anti-Semitism, calling the writer's comments "utter fabrications" and saying he was angry over a rejected film script.
Gibson, who has been dogged by similar criticism since making an anti-Semitic statement in 2006 to police in a drunken rant, had been working with the "Basic Instinct" screenwriter on a movie about the ancient Jewish hero Judah Maccabee.
On Wednesday, Hollywood show business publication TheWrap.com reported that the first draft of Eszterhas' script was rejected by Warner Bros. Upon hearing of it, Eszterhas sent a nine-page letter to Gibson accusing him of not really intending to make the movie, called "The Maccabees."
Eszterhas wrote that Gibson announced the project purely "in an attempt to deflect continuing charges of anti-Semitism," according to a copy posted on TheWrap.com.
He also accused Gibson of calling Jews "oven-dodgers" and "Jewboys" when they met, and even wrote that Gibson admitted vowing to kill his ex-girlfriend Oksana Gregorieva, following a bitter public feud with her over custody of the pair's child.
Gibson, the Oscar winner whose movies include "Mad Max" and "Lethal Weapon," did not directly address charges of anti-Semitism, but said Eszterhas' description of his "statements and actions" are "utter fabrications."
"Contrary to your assertion that I was only developing Maccabees to burnish my tarnished reputation, I have been working on this project for over 10 years and it was publicly announced eight years ago," Gibson wrote in the letter, released by a spokesman.
"I absolutely want to make this movie; it's just that neither Warner Brothers nor I want to make this movie based on your script," he said.
Gibson, 56, went on to call the draft that Eszterhas submitted the most "substandard" he had seen in 25 years of overseeing script development and a "waste of time."
Jewish leaders criticized Gibson's Maccabee project when it was revealed last fall as offensive given the star's history.
Judah Maccabee was the son of a Jewish priest who in the 2nd century BC led a guerrilla revolt in Judea against armies of the Seleucid Empire. The historical figure, whose last name in Hebrew translates as "The Hammer," is revered by many Jews. The holiday of Hanukkah commemorates his triumphs.

13 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON: "I LOVE THE BEATLES"
Source: TMZ
Mel Gibson is telling friends ... he NEVER said John Lennon deserved to die -- in fact, he's a huge Beatles fan and he plays their music all the time.
Sources tell TMZ, screenwriter Joe Eszterhas' allegations the actor celebrated John Lennon's death are just false. As one source put it, "It's not uncommon to hear The Beatles at Gibson's house."
The source adds, Gibson was even playing "Imagine" at a recent function -- the same song Eszterhas says Mel bashed recently, claiming, "Imagine. I hate that f**king song. I'm glad [Lennon's] dead."
Mel is claiming ... he isn't surprised by Eszterhas' false claims in his 9-page diatribe -- because the entire letter reads like a "bad script."
We're told Mel is also convinced ... another major rift between him and Eszterhas had nothing to do with him -- or "The Maccabees" -- it had to do with Mel's other viking-themed film project, which Mel's been developing for years.
We're told Eszterhas was frustrated with Mel ... because Mel had been putting more time into the viking movie than he did into "Maccabees."
BY THE WAY WE REALLY LOVE THE BEATLES AND COULDN'T CARE LESS WHAT MEL GIBSON THINKS ABOUT THEM.

13 APRIL 2012.- ESZTERHAS: "DON'T CALL ME A LIAR. I HAVE A TAPE"
Source: The Wrap
Hollywood screenwriter Joe Eszterhas warned Mel Gibson on Thursday that calling him a liar could be hazardous: he has a tape.
“He should be very careful calling me a liar,” Eszterhas said in an exclusive interview with TheWrap's Sharon Waxman. “We have a recording of his actions and statements that my son Nick made in Costa Rica,” where Eszterhas, his wife, Naomi, and son spent time with Gibson in December at the actor's villa.
Gibson said on Wednesday that an explosive letter from Eszterhas was “utter fabrication” in its “great majority.” In the letter, the writer described the movie star in the grip of an anti-Semitic obsession, inflicting frequent rages on those around him and threatening to kill his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
The following is the full interview:
Joe Eszterhas: I’d like to respond to Mel line by line. He says, “The great majority of the facts as well as the statements attributed to me are utter fabrication.” He should be very careful calling me a liar. We have a recording of his actions and statements that my son Nick made in Costa Rica. There were at least four other people present when he exploded in that rage. Naomi also witnessed things he said about killing Oksana, and his constant anti-Semitic remarks. He should be very careful.
SW: And he says that as man of a principle, if Mel was this person you describe, you should have withdrawn from the project.
JE: I didn’t withdraw from the project because I love the project. It’s a great, heroic story. I felt trapped. It was a project initiated by Mel. I couldn’t legally or morally take it from him and write it as a spec script. I was hoping the power of the story would overcome his anti-Semitism. I hoped to convert him through the power of the script. I wanted to write, and I did write, the Jewish Braveheart.
SW: Some are saying that you only wrote this letter out of resentment, after Warner Bros. rejected the script?
JE: In an interview I did with the New York Times on Feb 5, before the script delivered, I said I’d seen him explode at people, and that Oksana was right when she said that he needed medication. I also said that if I saw anti-Semitism creep into the script, I’d take my name off the project.
SW: Did you ever confront him when he made anti-Semitic remarks?
JE: We had a terrific argument over his notion that the Torah talked about the sacrifice of Christian babies. I told him he was confusing the Torah with the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. He said, "it’s the Torah check it."
SW: And when he used a term like "oven-dodgers"?
JE: I would say, "Dude, stop this shit." Or I’d roll my eyes.

13 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON IS SAID TO BE UP FOR A ROLE IN SIN CITY
Source: 411mania
Mel Gibson is said to be up for a role in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Deadline reports that Gibson, whose The Maccabbees has gone down in flames and is embroiled in controversy over comments he allegedly made, is being chased by Robert Rodriguez for a role in the film.
Also on Rodgriguez's list is Michelle Williams, who was nominated for an Academy Award for My Week with Marilyn. Sin City: A Dame to Kill For begins filming this summer.

17 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON HAS NOT PAID OFF DEBT WITH NICOYA'S MUNICIPALITY
Source: info costa rica
Although one of Mel Gibson's representatives visited the Municipality of Nicoya on March 30th in order to pay off property taxes, he still owes 27 million colones in unpaid taxes.
Gibson's representative paid nearly 9 million colones in property taxes, which corresponded to this year's first quarter, but paid none of his past due taxes.
In March 2011 several inspectors visited the actor's 163-hectare estate on Playa Barrigona. Upon inspection they were able to determine that in 2001, before Gibson purchased the property, five buildings, including several homes, a pool and a restaurant, were built without any of the building permits required by Nicoya's Municipality.
Being that the actor is the property's current owner and since he did not register these buildings upon purchasing the property in 2007, he was fined by the local government for 17 million colones, in addition to the 10 million colones that he owes in property taxes.
Nicoya's Mayor, Marco Antonio Jiménez, has confirmed to the VON that Mel Gibson is still in arrears on his property taxes. Therefore, they have started a judicial debt collection process against him.
“We have now filed suit at Nicoya's court in order to collect the actor's debt through legal means. He must understand that all who reside in this country must pay taxes. Last week he sent this quarter's payment and thereby, he should be aware that he is still in arrears," explained the Mayor.
Gibson, who must pay $425 million to ex-wife Robyn Dennis Moore, has put most of his properties on sale including the one in Costa Rica, which he purchased back in 2007 for $25.8 million.
However, the Playa Barrigona estate is now on the market with a $5 million discount. The actor has currently valued his property at $29.8 million, as opposed to the $35 million at which it was first listed in 2010.

20 APRIL 2012.- JOE ESZTERHAS RELEASE HIS SECRET WEAPON
Source: AP
A recording allegedly made in December was posted Thursday to www.thewrap.com. It lasts about 2 minutes and contains blasts directed at screenwriter Joe Eszterhas ("Basic Instinct," "Showgirls").
Gibson apparently blew his top after Eszterhas failed to deliver a first draft for "The Maccabees," a film Gibson planned to make about the revolt that Jewish hero Judah Maccabee led against the Seleucid Empire.
The iPhone recording was made by the screenwriter's 15-year-old son, Nick, who was reportedly "adamant" that his father release it to the media.
This is the latest round in the ugly war of words between Gibson and Eszterhas, who is Jewish. Last week, Eszterhas alleged in a nine-page letter that Gibson made a number of anti-Semitic comments while the two were conceptualizing the now-in-limbo Warner Bros. film.
Following the release of the letter, Gibson admitted in a written statement to being "passionate and intense," but said he felt his frustration was justified because Eszterhas hadn't done any work on the project over the past 15 months. He added that claims that he used anti-Semitic slurs during the conversations were "utter fabrications."
A Gibson rep said the actor-filmmaker wasn't planning to respond publicly to news about the recording.

20 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON MAY SUE ESZTERHAS FOR RELEASING AUDIO
Source: TMZ
Mel Gibson is seriously considering suing Joe Eszterhas for secretly recording him at his home in Costa Rica last December, and then releasing the audio rant.
Sources connected with Mel tell TMZ ... the actor believes he has a "basic human right" NOT to be secretly recorded in his own home.
We're told Mel's people are looking at the laws of Costa Rica to determine if recording laws were violated and, even if they weren't, if Mel's right of privacy was violated by the release of the audio.
Mel explodes in the recording about Eszterhas' lack of progress with "The Maccabees" script -- "What the f**k have you been doing!!" He also unloads on Oksana Grigorieva, calling her a ""F**king c**t, c**ksucking whore."
We're told Mel believes anyone recorded "at their worst moment" would sound awful, and it's unfair to trap people in their refuge.
One Mel source notes with skepticism that Eszterhas has made other allegations against Mel ... that the actor also ranted against the Jews and expressed pleasure that John Lennon was shot and killed ... but none of that is on the tape.

20 APRIL 2012.- "GET THE GRINGO" HAS A ONE NIGHT THEATRICAL RUN
Source: Los Angeles Times
Mel Gibson's new movie, "Get the Gringo," rolled into a handful of theaters Wednesday night for what is certain to be the shortest theatrical run in the actor's history: one night.
That's because Gibson's latest self-financed film, a $20-million, south-of-the-border crime drama set in a Mexican prison, won't appear in theaters beyond Wednesday's premiere in Austin, Texas, which was simulcast into a few auditoriums around the country. Instead, "Get the Gringo" will skip a theatrical run entirely and debut on the satellite service DirecTV on May 1 in one of the boldest bets on video-on-demand programming.
VOD transactions surged by 1 billion to 8.8 billion in 2011, according to a new study by Rentrak, but most of the movies released directly in the format have been low-budget art house fare like "Margin Call." But Gibson's movie, which the actor stars in, co-wrote and produced, is a relatively lavish action film that theoretically could have enjoyed a wide release at the multiplex.
But Gibson, in addition to all of his legal problems, has struggled at the box office recently. Last year, "The Beaver" failed to gross even $1 million, and the year before his $80-million drama "Edge of Darkness" sold just $43.3 million in tickets domestically.
"We're just in a different era," Gibson said at an Austin theater following the film's premiere, with the actor's interview by blogger Harry Knowles beamed into satellite screenings in cities such as Atlanta, Minneapolis and Los Angeles. "Many people just like to see things in their homes. It's just another way to do it and a better way to do it. I think it's the future."
Once known as "How I Spent My Summer Vacation," the violent film was directed and co-written by Adrian Grunberg, who was Gibson's first assistant director on "Apocalypto." In "Get the Gringo," Gibson plays a character known as Driver, a veteran criminal thrown into a squalid Mexican prison. The film's jail is patterned after El Pueblito, a notorious correctional facility in Tijuana that operated as its own city, with guns, drugs and prostitution readily available. "You can buy anything," one character says in the film, "except your way out."
Knowles declined to ask Gibson about his recent, nasty feud with screenwriter Joe Eszterhas, who was writing a screenplay about the Jewish warrior Judah Maccabee for Gibson to produce and potentially direct. Eszterhas in a long letter called Gibson an anti-Semite who "hates Jews" after Warner Bros. put the project on hold, while Gibson responded with his own letter, calling the "Basic Instinct" screenwriter incompetent.
Gibson said in the Austin interview that he is finishing writing a movie about the Vikings with his "Braveheart" screenwriter Randall Wallace. "It's phenomenal," Gibson said. "I can't wait to get my claws on it."
He also said he had been meeting with writer-director Robert Rodriguez about a possible sequel to "Machete" called "Machete Kills."
"It sounds fun," Gibson said.

20 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON BRINGS "GET THE GRINGO" TO ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE
Source: austin360
Mel Gibson was slated to present his latest, “Get the Gringo,” at the Alamo South Wednesday night. And the place was buzzing. Many were curious to see the Mexico-set actioner produced and co-written by Gibson, and just as many were excited to see if the mercurial Gibson would actually show and, if he did, whether he would he say or do anything that warranted attention.
Well, Gibson showed at the Drafthouse South, but there were no serious fireworks to mark the occasion of the special screening starring a man who continues to make negative headlines.
Gibson skipped any formal questions on his brief jaunt down the red carpet. He did appear in a Q&A following the screening, moderated by Harry Knowles, who took questions solely from an online audience. The controlled staging, which did not allow for any questions from the live audience, helped stave off any awkward or confrontational moments, but to Knowles’ credit, he did ask one question that struck at the heart of many of Gibson's recent negative headlines.
Knowles noted the Star of David around director Adrian Grunberg’s neck and asked the Jewish filmmaker, who served as Gibson’s first assistant director on “Apocalypto,” if he had any hesitancy in working with Gibson, whose anti-Semitic rants have made him tabloid fodder. Gibson groaned and Grunberg joked, and within 45 seconds, all of the awkwardness was a recent memory.
Gibson responded to a series of questions about his movie and gave hints that he may be back in Austin — a town he professed to love — for work. The “Braveheart” actor and director said he chatted with Robert Rodriguez at the Alamo South screening, and though he would not confirm his participation, said the idea of appearing in a sequel to “Machete” sounded like fun.
As for the actual movie, Gibson plays an American con on the run who ends up entangled in a hostile drama set inside a bizarre Mexican prison. The gritty and infrequently comedic film has elements of Rodriguez and Sam Peckinpah — referred to several times in the Q&A by both Gibson and Knowles — dabbed a bit of heart.
“Get the Gringo” will be available on DirecTV on May 1. While Gibson said the release platform spoke to the changing landscape of media consumption, it is hard to think that the actor’s recent cinematic failures and personal turmoil did not affect the film’s potential for theatrical distribution.
Gibson said he and “Braveheart” writer Randall Wallace have recently finished a third draft of their untitled film about Vikings. The “Passion of the Christ” and “Apocalypto” director said the movie will be in English, but not a form with which audiences are familiar.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment and Icon Productions kicked off the national marketing campaign for Mel Gibson‘s Get The Gringo, they held a special premiere screening in Austin with Ain’t It Cool News’s Harry Knowles and Mel’s fans. Director Adrian Grunberg, Kevin Hernandez and producer Stacy Perskie also were there for a simultaneous screening in major markets with the Q&A being streamed live to audiences around the USA.
Get The Gringo follows a career criminal (Mel Gibson) nabbed by Mexican authorities is placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy (Kevin Hernandez).
“At the end of the day it just doesn’t take its self to seriously and it’s a popcorn eater.” – Mel Gibson
“Initially Mel had an idea about an American who…had images of a high speed chase going to the border and he had read a lot about Mexican prison and was kinda inspired by them. You know how gritty and how different it could be.” Stacy Perskie

24 APRIL 2012.- IS MEL'S CAREER OVER?
Source: Fox News
“Much of Hollywood has already shunned Mel Gibson and that’s why it was so shocking to many when ‘The Maccabees’ selected him for the project. The fact that Gibson’s rant involves the film’s screenwriter will almost certainly lead to a blacklisting,”. “It also is proof that despite [everything], Gibson has not changed and is still in desperate need of anger management counseling, and that hiring him for any project invites trouble, unwanted negative publicity and brings with it unpredictability.”
According to an industry site, Gibson has no projects in the works aside from a “rumored” role in Robert Rodriguez’s “Machete” sequel entitled “Machete Kills.” His only movie slated for release this year, his self-financed crime drama “Get the Gringo,” will skip a theatrical run entirely and debut on DirecTV next month.
Industry watcher Scott Huver says the only way Gibson can maintain a Hollywood presence is to produce and fund his own films.
“As one of Hollywood’s highest-grossing, highest-paid stars for decades, financing his own films won’t be a problem: finding distributors, theaters that will play them and audiences to see them will be the issue,” Huver said. “At this point, given the presumed frequency of these sorts of tantrums, anyone in Hollywood – even Gibson’s biggest filmmaking fans and supporters – would have to give pause to the notion of working with him again, at least until he’s able to show demonstrate some concrete progress in managing his volcanic outbursts."
As it stands, public apologies like he has made in the past aren't likely enough.
“He would be well-advised to ignore any fallout from his latest taped rant. He has already been blacklisted in Hollywood, that’s why he is living in Costa Rica and producing his own movies,” says crisis management expert Gene Grabowski of Levick Strategic Communications. “Because of his success 20 years ago, Gibson no longer has to seek job offers. He now creates his own opportunities, but if he invests too much time explaining his position and responding to fallout, he will only lose more fans.”
TMZ reported that Gibson may sue Eszterhas over possible invasion of privacy. A rep for Gibson declined to comment.

24 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON IN "MACHETE KILLS"
Source: Deadline
So apparently people on soap-boxes with completely unsubstantiated opinions now proclaim that they are idiots in tandem with their comments. Interesting. With that being said, let’s take a look at the facts:
"Machete" grossed $14 million opening weekend in 2,670 theatres. Not great, but "Grindhouse" wasn't a success either.
"Edge of Darkness" (2010) grossed $17.1 million opening weekend, facing off against the second weekend of Avatar. For a much-maligned actor (although sans the voice-mails at the time), that's not chump change, especially against Jimmy Cameron. There is still an audience looking to see movies featuring this man, politics and high-horse personal ideals aside.
"The Beaver" would have never been a hit, given the "quirky" subject matter and poor marketing (not bothering to test the waters and expand the release didn't help matters any).
"How I Spent My Summer Vacation" or whatever it's being called could have probably made 10-15 million easy, but studios are somehow fearful of hearing nasty letters being sent their way.
In summation, he will probably play a tiny bit part similar to Robert DeNiro in the first "Machete", but it's astounding to see the venom and vitriol already being hurled at the movie because of a tiny casting decision. The movie will be middling at best, much like Robert Rodriguez's other offerings, but at least it will be fun and come in at a reasonable budget, which is more than you can say from half of Hollyweird these days.

30 APRIL 2012.- GIBSON: "I'VE GOT A LITTLE BIT OF A TEMPER"
Source: NBC
Mel Gibson has been relatively quiet since screenwriter Joe Eszterhas accused him of being anti-Semitic and released tapes of the star raging and screaming profanities. But Gibson is finally speaking out ... and with some humor.
On Friday, the actor appeared on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" and brought up all the drama with the "Maccabees" scribe. "You know, I love coming to 'The Tonight Show' because when I get here and you tape me, you let me know you're going to do that up front!" Gibson joked.
The actor admitted that he had been "peeved" at Eszterhas over the delay of the script and had indeed yelled at the writer.
"Was it just you swearing at the guy?" Leno asked in regards to the secretly taped tirade.
"Yeah, pretty much!" Gibson said. "You know, maybe you don't know this about me, but I've got a little bit of a temper."
The actor also told Leno that even though the situation has made him angry, it was OK because the last few years had been so odd for him. "It's like living in a bad B movie," Gibson said of all the drama in his life. "From slipping on a banana peel in your driveway to sort of midnight phone calls ... how did I get here?! It is bizarre!"

Danny Trejo stars alongside returning thesps Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez and series newcomers Mel Gibson and Demian Bichir.

She recently starred on NBC's "The Playboy Club" and has wrapped the indie pic "Syrup."

4 MAY 2012.- GIBSON'S "MEL MODEL" TESTS MARKET FOR $9.99 PPV
Source: Bloomberg News
Mel Gibson is bypassing theaters and releasing his latest picture on pay-television today, a move other producers are pursuing as consumers spend more to watch movies from home.
“Get the Gringo,” which stars the 56-year-old actor as a career criminal who finds himself in a Mexican prison, will be available solely on DirecTV this month for $9.99, before its DVD release. The satellite service is promoting the film to its 20 million U.S. customers on TV, via e-mail and on its website.
Gibson’s track record means the so-called Mel Model will be watched. His 2004 independent release, “The Passion of the Christ,” grossed $611 million in worldwide ticket sales. While his reputation may have made it difficult to get theatrical distribution, the experiment will appeal to other filmmakers who don’t have the same resources, said Phil Contrino, editor of film researcher Boxoffice.com.
“This is a way that his fan base will find the movie,” Contrino said in an interview, citing Gibson’s artistic respectability. Smaller-budget films may not warrant a $30 million outlay to get into theaters, he said.
Gibson’s reputation was damaged by an anti-Semitic tirade during a 2006 drunk-driving arrest and a well-publicized blowup at his former girlfriend in 2010.
“Get the Gringo” could have had traditional theatrical distribution, said Mike Dunn, president of Los Angeles-based Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, which is distributing the picture. He said he’s gotten calls from other producers asking about releasing a film first on pay TV.
“It’s a new model that goes broad quickly,” Dunn said. “A lot of films will go this direction.”
Smarter Way
Gibson, who financed the $20 million production cost, will get a larger share of revenue from DirecTV (DTV) (DTV), receive payment sooner, and shell out less in distribution fees than with a traditional theatrical release, according to Mark Gooder, chief executive officer of Icon Productions LLC, the actor’s Santa Monica, California-based company.
“We’d been having conversations about digital platforms,” Gooder said in an interview. “We said to ourselves, ‘We’ve got this film here, we paid for it, is there a smarter way of getting it out?’”
DirecTV, based in El Segundo, California, declined to comment, said Robert Mercer, a spokesman.
Major-studio cutbacks in the number of film titles has forced some independent filmmakers to look for alternatives. The major studios released 141 movies last year, a 31 percent decrease from 2006, according to statistics from the Motion Picture Association of America.
Home Theaters
Gooder estimated the cost of advertising and printing copies of a movie for a 2,000-screen release at $28 million.
“The theatrical experience is still a huge driving factor, but there is parallel model,” Gooder said.
Home-theater systems have improved the living-room viewing experience, and audiences have gotten used to options like Netflix Inc. (NFLX) (NFLX)’s. A high-definition version of the movie will cost $10.99, according to Fox.
U.S. pay-TV purchases increased 8 percent over the past two years to 278 million videos, according to Bruce Goerlich, chief research officer at Rentrak Corp. (RENT) (RENT), which compiles industry statistics. Video-on-demand sales rose 6.8 percent to $505 million in the first quarter, according to the studio-run Digital Entertainment Group.
The financial-crisis film “Margin Call” was released simultaneously last year in theaters and on pay television, generating 600,000 video-on-demand transactions, according to Peter Wilkes, a spokesman for Lions Gate Entertainment Corp. (LGF) (LGF) The movie grossed $5.4 million in domestic theaters and $4 million in video on demand purchases.
‘Braveheart’ to ‘Beaver’
Studios have also weighed so-called premium VOD. Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) (CMCSA)’s Universal Pictures abandoned a plan last October to release the Eddie Murphy film “Tower Heist” for $59.99 on pay TV three weeks after its theatrical release, after exhibitors threatened a boycott.
“This will eventually work out to be a great business model but the first movers on this are going to have a tough time,” said J.C. Spink, a producer of “The Ring” and “I Am Number Four.”
Gibson, who won Academy Awards for best picture and director for 1995’s “Braveheart,” has struggled professionally. “The Beaver,” in which he starred, grossed less than $1 million in U.S. theaters last year, according to the Internet Movie Database.
He was dropped from a cameo in Time Warner Inc. (TWX) (TWX)’s “The Hangover Part II” after some members of the film protested his appearance.
Leno Show
Gibson premiered “Get the Gringo” for one night in Austin, Texas, and nine other locations April 18 to generate chatter on social-networking sites, Fox’s Dunn said.
The movie will be released in theaters overseas, Gibson told Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” on April 27. He said he had theatrical distribution lined up in the U.S. but opted for pay-per-view.
“If you take four people to the cinema you’re paying 100 bucks for the babysitter and something to eat and everything else,” he said. “With this it’s 10 bucks.”

7 MAY 2012.- SOFIA VERGARA IS SET TO BE A SEXY MADAM IN "MACHETE KILLS"

Colombian stunner Sofía Vergara is set to be a sexy madame in Robert Rodríguez’s all-star-cast film, “Machete Kills.”
Vergara will be joining Mel Gibson and Mexican actor Demian Bichir as well as Michelle Rodríguez and Jessica Alba, Entertainment trade magazine Variety is reporting.
Coming back as the Mexican ex- federale, who wants revenge, is Danny Trejo.
Production for the film will begin this month. The plot of the sequel to “Machete” will have Trejo recruited by the U.S. Government to crack down on a cartel leader, played by Gibson, stop him from setting off a fatal missile.
The magazine says fans can expect the audience to see Vergara decked out in leather playing the naughty Madame Desdemona.
Desdemona’s Mexican clients have valuable pieces of information that Machete is looking for.
Fox News Latino previously reported that Demian Bichir and Mel Gibson have also joined Rodríguez for “Machete Kills.”
The Mexican actor was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in “A Better Life” and is starring alongside Salma Hayek in “Savages” this fall.
Variety reported that is also teaming up with William Friedkin to have a role in his next film, “Trapped.”
The magazine says that no details have surfaced about what role Bichir will play in “Machete Kills” or how much he will be paid.
The news of “Machete Kills” directed by Robert Rodríguez comes just as news of his new network made headlines.
In February, the Mexican-American movie director announced the launch of his new independent TV network, “El Rey” which he says will give second- and third-generation Latinos “something to identify with” while appealing to a mass audience.
“I have five children of my own. They are bilingual, like most second and third generations," Rodriguez told Fox News Latino in an exclusive interview.
"But they speak primarily in English and they couldn’t find anything on television that represented who they are in this country.”
He said he wants to change that with his new network, "El Rey."
"We know the audience is hungry for it," he said.

17 MAY 2012.- GIBSON RETURNS TO IRELAND TO SCOUT LOCATIONS FOR UPCOMING MOVIE
Source: herald.ie
BRAVEHEART director Mel Gibson is on the hunt for suitable locations for a new movie in Ireland.
The star was spotted leaving the Shelbourne Hotel.
Gibson was named after St Mel's Cathedral in Longford by his Irish mother.
And Gibson selected Ireland as the destination of choice for the shoot of his Oscar-winning historical drama, Braveheart.
Hundreds of Irish actors and extras made up the cast of the Scottish freedom movie which was partly shot in Trim Castle, the Curragh Plains, Blessington Lake and other locations around Wicklow.
Gibson (56) has been in Ireland since Saturday, scouting locations across the country.
Locals in Cahir, Tipperary, noted the director checking out potential sites. He was also seen walking down Grafton Street on Sunday, and posed for photos with bystanders on Wexford Street last night.
However, yesterday the Hollywood actor dodged paparazzi outside the luxury hotel.
Two security guards attempted to block photos of Gibson as he rushed out the side door and jumped into a waiting van.

UPDATED: Mel Gibson Watch - Dublin. Have You Seen Him? So, here's the one and only sweet natured Mel Gibson departing The Shelbourne in Dublin yesterday. Apparently he also enjoyed a spot of dinner in Pichet, and was happy to pose for photos which were then promptly posted to Twitter.
According to The Independent, Gibson has been "braving the Irish countryside to scout film locations... The director, who shot to fame in the 1980s with his roles in Mad Max and the Lethal Weapon films, was offered 1,600 Defence Force Reserve personnel for epic battle scenes, tax incentives and the use of historic sites and castles as incentive to film Braveheart in Ireland."
Wonder what they've offered him this time around... "What about this plot of land in the Phoenix Park? Or would you like to be King of Kerry, Mel? Actually, you can buy the whole island for €122, 023, 750, 999.0000000?"
As it happens, I was asked to be an extra on Braveheart. I accompanied a friend to the open "auditions" and they chose me over him, which was a bit awkward. Apparently I looked "more like a Scottish traveller". Funny that.

22 MAY 2012.- GIBSON WAS SCOUTING FILM SETS IN CAHIR
Source: Nationalist.ie
The lights, camera, action of Hollywood could be on their way to South Tipp - following the news that an Oscar winning director has been scouting possible filming locations here.
Oscar winning director and actor Mel Gibson was in Cahir on Monday of this week, where he toured Cahir Castle and later had lunch in the River House Cafe.
A spokesperson for Cahir Castle confirmed to The Nationalist that the superstar actor did pay them a visit on Monday, and is believed to be scouting for movie sets in Ireland.
Across the street at the River House Cafe, Jason Maher was surprised when a lunchtime booking turned out to be the famous actor and two colleagues.
“I shook his hand and all, he seemed to be a nice guy. He didn’t say much but his visit had something to do with a movie. He’s going to be producer and director, something very similar to Braveheart,” Jason said. “It would be great if he picked Cahir.”
A table had been booked in the cafe for lunch but no names were mentioned. There was a bit of excitement when Mel turned up.
“He stayed about an hour, had a bite to eat and a coffee. He had the home made steak pie and complimented the food,” Jason told The Nationalist.
The River House Cafe is owned by Jason and Jennifer Bailey.
Cahir Castle is no stranger to being a movie set - scenes for the movies ‘Excalibur,’ ‘Barry Lyndon’ and ‘Tristan and Isolde’ were shot there.
Mel Gibson is best known for movies including Braveheart, part of which was shot in Ireland, and the Lethal Weapon series.

22 MAY 2012.- PROMO POSTER, "MACHETE KILLS"
Source: The Playlist
Director Robert Rodriguez has not just one, but two sequels, currently making their way towards production. Machete Kills brings back Danny Trejo as the most kick-ass Mexican we've ever seen, and after seven years of waiting, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is finally making waves to follow-up the stylistic 2005 graphic novel adaptation with an all-star cast. Now it sounds like there's some advance promotion kicking off for the films, likely because of Cannes kicking off this week, as two early teaser posters have surfaced online. There's not any stunning imagery, but it's a good tease for each sequel. Look!
Machete Kills has already firmed up most of the original cast including Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez along with a new villain played by Mel Gibson and some new ladies in the form of Amber Heard and Sofia Vergara. It promises to be a lot of fun, with the titular hero now working for the U.S. government and trying to prevent an all-out war from a deranged billionaire arms dealer (Gibson) and a cartel leader who plan to use a space weapon to spread terror across the world. Surely there will be much more ridiculous action and gratuitous violence and rampant nudity.
Meanwhile, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is just getting started. Rodriguez has said that he's spoken to Rosario Dawson and Mickey Rourke who are both excited to reprise their roles, and since the graphic novel of the same name features at least the characters played by Devon Aoki, Michael Clarke Duncan and Clive Owen as well, I'm betting they'll be back too. Of course, the sequel could easily use stories from other volumes of the graphic novels as well, which means there could be other returning characters, and also plenty of room for new big name cast members too. Stay tuned

22 MAY 2012.- CANNES, ROBERT RODRIGUEZ TALKS SEQUELS

Robert Rodriguez has regularly mentioned Machete Kills and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For since before either film was close to becoming a reality, and now that they’re both on track to begin shooting this summer he’s happier than ever to talk them up. In a recent event at Cannes, Rodriguez offered several intriguing details about his new projects, including the warning not to believe everything you read online.
Specifically, Rodriguez told attendees that the synopsis that’s been circulating for Machete Kills is “misdirection — it’s all fake”:
Machete is recruited by the President, that’s true, but there’s no cartel leader and the weapon in space is just one of our early story ideas. That said, there is still a space element, for sure. We’ve given the character a much bigger playground. It’s going to be like a James Bond movie, with a Bond-style villain.”
Said villain (as previously reported, online even) will be played by Mel Gibson, whom Rodriguez says is “just a badass.” “This won’t just be him grinning, doing bad-guy stuff,” Rodriguez teased. “He’s going to do something with it that’ll really get people talking.” I mean, hey — if filmgoers are still having a hard time wrapping their minds around a likeable Gibson, I guess it makes sense to just make him totally, gleefully horrible.

27 MAY 2012.- KUPELIAN CONFIRMS MEETING WITH GIBSON ON ARMENIA FILM
Source: asbarez.com
Los Angeles-based filmmaker Roger Kupelian confirmed Friday that he has been holding meetings with Mel Gibson and representatives of President Serzh Sarkisian to realize a film project, about which the president made an announcement earlier this month.
Fugitive Studios Entertainment Armenia confirmed that the discussion have centered around producing Kupelian’s East of Byzantium, a pet project, on which the filmmaker has been working for several years.
Reportedly, the meetings between Kupelian and Gibson first took place in May, 2011 in Moscow. The two have been meeting intermittently until as early as last month. Fugitive Studios said that the most recent Kupelian-Gibson meeting “was promising yet preliminary.” Negotiations with prospective producers of the project are also being pursued, with the goal of reaching a solid conclusion before the end of this year.
Kupelian’s East of Byzantium chronicles the history of Armenians from the adoption of Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD to the Battle of Avarayr in 451 AD
East of Byzantium was conceived in New Zealand in 2002, when Kupelian was working on the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. The script made the rounds in Hollywood and released a trailer. Recently, the first graphic novel inspired by East of Byzantium, War Gods, was successfully released and is currently being translated into Spanish.
“Armenian culture needs to embrace warrior-code based identity over one that focuses on its victimization, and this project that I have personally financed over the course of ten years has been shaped by that ideal,” said Kupelian.
Established in 2006, Fugitive Studios Entertainment was created by Roger Kupelian and his partners as a way to bring East of Byzantium and similar independent projects to quality widespread release, in a variety of media. Having honed its expertise by also producing quality visual effects and development work for mainstream entertainment, as well as a series of music videos for System of A Down’s frontman, Serj Tankian, Fugitive Studios Entertainment is now focusing on bringing the series of Kupelian’s graphic novels to a wider audience.
