A group of production companies has filed a $7.5 million fraud lawsuit against Golden Tree Asset Management over the collapse of payroll processing service Axium.
The plaintiffs, which include 2929 Prods., Yari Film Group, Mel Gibson's Icon Prods. and Sneak Preview Entertainment, claim Golden Tree, which had loaned money to Axium, engaged in a secret foreclosure of Axium. The result was the bank transferring $28 million in funds from Axium, which were entrusted funds deposited by the plaintiffs.
Axium abruptly closed its doors in January and filed for bankruptcy after its finances collapsed, leaving several production companies in a lurch with their payroll.
The plaintiffs claim the damage has included delays in film releases and special promotions -- one involving a film being unveiled at Comic-Con -- and increased costs in completing productions.
"To mitigate the impact of these increased costs, these plaintiffs have been obliged to bring aboard equity investors and thereby diminish these plaintiffs opportunities for future profits on these productions," the lawsuit states. "The release of their films has been disrupted and forced limited early release of one film in certain markets, with a resulting adverse effect on its ultimate market success."

Mel chills out in the North End. It didn't take Mel Gibson long to discover Gigi Gelateria on Hanover Street. The actor, who's in town shooting a film with Robert De Niro, dropped by the North End institution and happily posed with employees (above). "Edge of Darkness," a cop drama written by "Departed" scribe William Monahan, is currently shooting in a warehouse in Chelsea.

25 AUGUST 2008.- "EDGE OF DARKNESS" IN ROCKPORT
Cape Hedge Beach

ROCKPORT; Earlier this year, Hollywood transformed Rockport into the picturesque fishing town of Sitka, Alaska.
Now, another Tinseltown crew has struck a deal to film here. Only this time, Rockport specifically Cape Hedge Beach; will appear on the big screen as itself. And on center stage for the drama "Edge of Darkness" when it films here will be Mel Gibson.
Filming is set to take place on Cape Hedge Beach on Thursday and Friday, Sept. 25 and 26. According to Town Administrator Michael Racicot. The scene is said to feature Gibson's character returning to Cape Hedge Beach, his daughter's favorite childhood place, to scatter his daughter's ashes into the sea.
DeNiro will not take part in the Rockport shoot, Racicot said.
Selectmen voted unanimously last week to approve a location agreement with a film crew requesting to shoot scenes for "Edge of Darkness."
A representative from the crew met with the Conservation Commission, harbormasters and Police Department in preparation for requesting the location agreement. The crew will only need use of the nearby parking lot and a section of the beach, Racicot said. No structures will be built on the beach, he said.
As part of the location agreement, the production company, which was not identified, agreed to donate $2,000 toward Rockport's yet-to-be-constructed animal shelter.
Prior to this year, it had been five years since Rockport's rugged coastline or quaint downtown shops had served as a backdrop for a major Hollywood production.
Before the Walt Disney production "The Proposal," filmed on Bearskin Neck back in April, the last film shot in Rockport had been scenes for 2003's "Stuck on You," which starred Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear. Rockport received $5,000 from 20th Century Fox to film "Stuck on You;" selectmen used the money to renovate Boy Scout Hall.
Filming for "Edge of Darkness" began in the South Boston neighborhood last week. The movie is slated for a 2009 release.

They're filming all around Boston Medical Center: Harrison Ave and Albany St between Brookline St and Mass Ave.
According to a bloggery reader, Mel Gibson was at Boston Medical Center yesterday and is supposed to be there for the next few days. One of the security guys at BU said they would be at the loading dock ... wherever that is - most of the time.

Some tips have been off the record sent via e-mail while one reader gives a detailed account:
"Been spotting him all week around 670 Albany Street where the mock Boston Police Deptartment was set up for the film," the source writes. "He looks incredible--tanned and fit."
The source continues, "Today, he stopped to speak to us from the rented blue Cadillac Escalade while on lunch break. Exciting times in the South End."

30 AUGUST 2008.- PAULINE
|

Northampton, August 9
I turned off the car engine and began to watch the building in the trees. It was nearly dawn. I felt rather foolish but nevertheless prepared myself for a long wait, and settled myself more confortably in my seat. Minutes passed. I reached into my pocket for a chewing gum and my fingers touched again the note that had brought me to this spot and put all other thoughts out of my head. "I´m a fool," I thought, and remembered the last time I had seen him. He was absolutely gorgeous gorgeous in Complete Savages as officer Cox!!!. I came to a sudden decision, and my stenograph, my steno chair and I got out of the car and crept through the trees towards my dream. "I´m gonna be the stenographer in Edge of Darkness and the first extra to be thrown off the set for talking to Mel!!!" I shouted, and my voice echoed in the silence.
