"I´m not too sure why I set up Icon 15 years ago. I think it was a genuine desire to exploit my own creativity; it was not a complete vision. Then Bruce and I both received a baptism of fire when it came to "Hamlet."

    Mel Gibson and his long time partner Bruce Davey launched Icon Productions in 1989. Icon Productions was Gibson´s second company set up to generate film vehicles for himself and other actors. The first Lovell-Gibson, folded in 1989 before getting any projects off the ground.
    The two met in 1980 when Bruce was referred to Mel by a business associate. A few years later, when Mr. Gibson was putting together "Hamlet," he asked Mr. Davey to come to L.A. to work with him and so Icon was born.
    Since then, the company has developed an imposing portfolio of pictures including, "Hamlet", "Forever Young", "The Man without a Face", "Maverick", "Immortal Beloved", "Braveheart", "Anna Karenina", "Fairy Tale: A True Story", "187", "Payback," "An Ideal Husband", "Felicia's Journey", "What Women Want" and "We Were Soldiers".
    This spectacular journey was highlighted early in 1996 when Davey co-produced and Gibson directed the epic period drama "Braveheart", which picked up five Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director.
    In 2003, Icon Productions produced "The Passion of The Christ", the top-grossing film worldwide during the first six months of 2004. In June they won their first Gold Reel Award.
    Nowadays, Icon Productions is divided into three branches: Icon Productions Inc. (Santa Monica, CA), Icon Entertainment International (Los Angeles, USA // London, UK) and Icon Film Distribution (Sydney, Australia).
    They produce and distribute Films, TV series, Music, DVD and Video.
    Mr. Gibson and Mr. Davey have always counted on an able team of experienced professionals such as Steve McEveety, producer of "The Passion of The Christ" and "Braveheart", Anthony Buckner in charge of the London office for Icon International, Mark Gooder and Ariel Veneziano, president of Icon Entertainment International, to develop their interesting new projects.
