Estimado Sr.Gibson:
Desde que hemos sabido de su gran interés por fomentar y reavivar dialectos/lenguas con marcada influencia en la historia e intenso valor cultural, no hemos dejado de dar vueltas a la idea de si pudiera interesarle ayudar a la difusión de nuestro dialecto, el cantabro. Poco podemos decir del cantabro que no se haya dicho ya. Sus raíces se remontan a la Prehistoria y los tiempos de las inigualables cuevas de Altamira. El auge del cantabro como dialecto quedo frenado por la derrota de nuestro insigne paisano Corocota frente a los Romanos. No obstante, a pesar de este terrible suceso, el cantabro ha llegado vivo a nuestros días.
Por otro lado, las andanzas de nuestro pueblo son merecedoras de un poco de atención por parte de la industria cinematográfica. Tenemos un rico folclore de gran belleza, como habrá podido observar si alguna vez ha tenido acceso a su lectura. En cuanto al paisaje, solo podemos calificarlo de "extraordinario set para rodar cualquier filme sin necesidad de añadidos ni retoques por ordenador".
Supongo que el tema de facilidades económicas para llevar a cabo un proyecto en nuestra zona será muy importante para Vdes. Pues bien, creemos que el Gobierno de nuestra región le ofrecería todo tipo de ventajas, dado los beneficios que supondría una publicidad de ese tipo para nuestra amada tierruca. Me atrevería a decir que les saldría todo por dos realucos de nada.
En cuanto a actores y figurantes, estamos sobrados. Todos con rasgos indígenas y dominio del cantabro y castellano. Algunos inclusive y gracias a THAT´S ENGLISH nos defendemos un pocuco en el idioma de Shakespeare.
El tema del alojamiento para los técnicos y personal de su equipo de rodaje está garantizado. Disponemos desde hoteles de cinco estrellas hasta un hermoso camping, sin olvidar las posibilidades que ofrecen nuestras playas para pasar la noche al fresco y bajo las estrellas.
No puedo despedirme sin recordarle la variedad de nuestra típica gastronomía. Imagínese frente a un humeante plato de sabroso cocido cantabro con su morcilluca, chorizo y pedazuco de jamón. Por no hablar de los tocinucos de cielo, la cuajada con miel o el arroz con leche. Píenselo. ¿A que se le hace la boca agua?.
Bueno, ya le he robado mucho de su valiosisimo tiempo. Espero haberle convencido o al menos no haberle mareado con tanta cháchara.

Estoy totalmente segura de que existe alguna explicación razonable para su cambio de look, aunque la verdad es que no alcanzo a entenderlo. Tampoco comprendo porque no ha habido nadie capaz de decirle que tiene un aspecto, como mínimo, extraño. Una mezcla entre vagabundo de New York y Fidel Castro, sin olvidar a Tom Hanks en la película "Naufrago". He leído por algún lado que en Hollywood está de moda el estilo"barbita de chivo", pero lo suyo es más bien "barba de Cro-Magnon". Si se lo ha aconsejado su estilista, tenga por cierto que ese individuo le odia profundamente. Si lo hace para pasar desapercibido, dudo mucho que lo consiga porque con esa barba es prácticamente imposible no llamar la atención. Si se debe a una promesa, espero que valga la pena tal sacrificio..La única razón que le encuentro al tema, es que su aspecto vaya en concordancia con su nuevo status como propietario de isla tropical, es decir, que haya adoptado el estilo isleño. Sea cual sea la causa, espero que disfrute con salud de su barba y que tarde o temprano recapacite y vuelva a ser el Mel Gibson de siempre, afeitado y lustroso.

I´m very hopeful that Mel Gibson´s Apocalypto will focus the general attention on the Mayans and on the necessity of preserving their art and theirs buildings that are being destroyed by pollution and acid rain.
The acid rain, caused by pollution from oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico, is the guilty of the rapid decay of ancient ruins in this area. The old limestone buildings at places like Chichen Itza, Tulum and Palenque are wearing away very rapidly. These sites are the remains of buildings built by the Mayans between 250 BC. and AD. 900, but those ruins are in danger of being seriously danger by pollution. At many sites the stone has been covered with a layer of black substance like tar. At other sites painted surfaces inside temples are lifting and flaking off, whilst at others stonework is being eaten away. Scientists estimate the rate of wear to be about a millimettre of stone every twelve years. That´s enough to have caused some of the ancient carvings to become seriously damaged already.
A great deal of effort is being done by lots of people in order to clean up the pollution and reduce the erosion.
Mel Gibson has a great opportunity to help us to create a social consciousness of this problem. Please, save Mayan ruins from destruction.

I think that there are dozens of great stories in Irish Literature and I can´t understand why producers and directors have shown very little interest in them while they are spending millions on producing absolute trash.
I don´t want to sound critic but if you are interested in reviving ancient languages (aramaic, mayan), you may also promote the Gaelic and help Irish authors. Didn´t your ancestors come from Ireland?….

I would just like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude towards an actor and fellow human being which is not only according to me the greatest actor / director that ever lived but also a down to earth human being that cares about other people and the world. To me it is important that an actor which I admire should be a good person in his personal life as well. Therefore I have the greatest respect for Mel Gibson who could manage to keep his feet on the ground and be a good husband and father amidst all the interest there is in his life personally as well as on screen.
I have all his movies made and hope that we can look forward to another movie in which he will actually star as I feel that his fans are being neglected in this department. I also collect movies which he directs because he definitely made a success in this area as well.
Mel, I would just like to say keep up the good work! I battled to get hold of all your movies because not all were available in South Africa, but managed to get them imported.
Also, the Passion of the Christ was the best movie ever depicting The Crucifixion. My dad always took us to all the Jesus movies ever made and I cannot remember one being close as good. I feel the topic was always avoided and you were brave enough to reveal this to the world that especially needs an eye-opener at this stage in history. I do not know of anyone that was left untouched by this movie and our church held special screenings at old age homes etc. Another thing I respect is that you say your dad is your biggest hero because it is important to me that our parents are important to us. My dad was my hero as well and life seems so empty since he passed away. We have our own families but somehow that void can never be filled. He always knew what to do and had a solution for everything. I miss calling someone dad. I only wish he was here to see your new movie Apocalypto because these people was of great interest to him. He studied ancient civilisations and these people was the most mystifying for him.
