Distributor: 20th Century Fox.

Production Company: Icon Productions

Cast: Mel Gibson. Mel Gibson has signed on, with his salary expected to be in the $25 million range.

Director: George Miller

Screenwriter: George Miller

Genre: Action / Adventure

Plot Outline: Mad Max, finally with us in his fourth incarnation, still wanders the wastelands of a post-apocalyptic Australian Outback. it *is* likely to star Mel Gibson as the aging post-apocalyptic hero, Mad Max, with a young actor possibly co-starring as his son.

Based Upon: This is the third sequel to Mad Max, the 1979 film starring Mel Gibson as a cop in a post-apocalyptic Australia. Mad Max was followed in 1981 by The Road Warrior, and in 1985 by Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.

Filming: Production is scheduled to start in 2005 on location in Namibia on a budget of $104 million. There will also be some filming on sets at Fox Studios in Sydney, Australia.

News: May 2003.- Mad Max 4 was due to start filming early in Namibia, but that was pushed back indefinitely because of the war in Iraq.
Sept.2003.- According to IMDB Studio Brief, drawing conclusions from a report in Variety, Mad Max: Fury Road was dead in the water.
Daily Variety reported that the actor was in talks with Warner Bros. to star in Under and Alone. Gibson had originally intended to shoot Mad Max: Fury Road but halted preproduction citing security concerns following the outbreak of war with Iraq. Production offices in Swakopmund were shut down, dozens of contracts and leases for homes, apartments, car rentals, and caterers were canceled, and sets built for the $100-million movie were warehoused.
Nov 2003.- In an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, Miller confirmed his plan to make a fourth Mad Max after finishing Happy Feet, Miller said the rising value of the Australian dollar would affect the budget.
"When we started on Mad Max, the Australia dollar was 52 [US cents] ... It's 72 cents now.
"That's a massive blow-out in your budget, which is another problem for Australia."
"I'm all for the runaway productions coming out from the United States. I love the fact that we get the Matrix movies and Star Wars being made here. But the Australian dollar [is] making the differential so tough."

"No amount of money will lure me back to play Mad Max again."

"I don´t think physical good looks and some kind of empty shell is appealing to anybody...Every now and then you get onto something that...strikes a chord with most people. You have to provide a mirror for them."
