POCAHONTAS (1995)

Plot.- The film is based on the legendary encounter between Pocahontas daughter of the Indian chief Powhatan, and Capt. John Smith, a soldier-sailor sent to New World as part of a British expedition force to build a settlement called Jamestown.

Anecdotes.- Mel SINGS two songs: "The Virginia Company" and "Mine, Mine, Mine". BRAVO!.

RANSOM (1996)

Plot.- The Mullers (Mel Gibson and Rene Russo) are a millionaire couple who own an airline and seem to have everything. Their marvellous life is shattered when their young son is kidnapped by a band of criminals and held for a ransom. But Tom (Mel) instead of paying off the kidnappers decides to place a bounty on their heads.

Anecdotes.- The filming of Ransom was disrupted when Mel developed acute appendicitis on a flight from LA to New York just two weeks before the Oscar ceremony. He had an emergency operation performed at Cornel Medical Center.

CONSPIRACY THEORY (1997)

Plot.- Fletcher is a New York cabdriver with a penchant for conspiracies. Jerry also has a sweet spot for Alice Sutton, Justice Department lawyer. When he stumbles onto intrigue that is much more than just a theory, Jerry and Alice become the target of a complex plot.

Anecdotes.- On the first day of filming, Mel sent an assistant to welcome Roberts with a gift-wrapped box. Julia eagerly tore the present open to find a freeze-dried rat. Very funny.

LETHAL WEAPON 4 (1998)

Plot.- "Lethal Weapon 4" finds Murtaugh and Riggs hot on the trail of an Asian crime lord. This edition also had Riggs becoming a stable husband and father.

Anecdotes.- Gibson performed some of his own stunts. One shot in Las Vegas in which he was dragged on top of a wooden tablecloth a fifty mph.

PAYBACK (1999)

Plot.- Porter, a career crook, is double-crossed and left for dead by his partner after a succesful heist. But Porter recovers from his wounds and sets out to get back his share of the money.

Anecdotes.- The finale of an early cut of the film was judged by Gibson and company to be stillborn so they decided some major rewrites were necessary. Helgeland declined the opportunity to do it, claiming the changes would compromise his artistic vision, and he departed the project.
