THE BOUNTY (1984)

Plot.- The film begins with a military inquiry into a mutiny and his wake, which captain Bligh explains in a series of flashbacks, beginning with his friendship with Christian, a young but experienced seaman. The ambitious Bligh wants to make a name for himself in His Majesty´s service. He always places the blame for his miscalculations and misjudgments on others, including Christian. Fearing for their lives, the crew mutinies and Christian leads them.

Anecdotes.- The shooting of the film was not a good period for Mel, and harsh words were said about his behaviour. He even was knocked to the ground after interrupting two Tahitians arguing during a liquor session at the Tattoo nightclub.

THE RIVER (1984)

Plot.- The River is a drama about a Tennesse farm family. Mae and Tom Garvey, parents of a young boy and girl, struggle desperately to hold on to their farm despite economic depression, mounting debts at the bank and ravages of nature - the worts being heavy rains making the river near their home flood their crop fields.

Anecdotes.- In September, 1983, shortly after beginning filming The River, newspaper headlines around the world reported that Mel had died in a plane crash , but Mel was very much alive and well in Kingsport.

MRS. SOFFEL (1984)

Plot.- The movie portrays Kate Soffel, the wife of a prison warder, who falls under the spell of Eddie Biddle (Gibson), the older of two brothers who had landed on death row for the murder of a grocer during an armed robbery.

Anecdotes.- On April 25 , Mel was driving around Toronto in a rented car when he ran a red light and hit another vehicle. The actor was given a breathalyzer test, which showed that he was over the legal alcohol limit, so he was arrested and charged with impaired driving.

MAD MAX 3. BEYOND THUNDERDOME (1985)

Plot.- Max wants the scraps of his wrecked V-8. His search for them leads to Bartertown, a hellhole in the middle of the desert, that is run by Aunty Entity. Max will have to challenge Master´s bodyguard to a duel to the death in the city´s arena, Thunderdome, in order to get his car back.

Anecdotes.- Mel Gibson was paid $1 million for the role. The film was shot under some difficult conditions. Temperatures sometimes reached as high as 104 degrees. Mel was really unease and his fuse became shorter and shorter as the film progressed. A very bad experience!.

LETHAL WEAPON(1987)

Plot.- Marty Riggs is a suicidal loner, a Vietnam veteran and an excellent cop whose wife has died whose world has fallen apart. Murtaugh is a family man. The two policemen will fight against crime.

Anecdotes.- During the preparation for Lethal Weapon, Mel wanted to get the feel of what it was really like to be LA cop by going out on patrol with the real thing.

TEQUILA SUNRISE(1988)

Plot.- The DEA wants to nail McKussic for his past crimes as well as lead them to an even bigger fish. His former associates in the drug trade (Raoul Julia), known to authorities only as "Carlos" -don´t want him to quit because he was such a moneymaker for them. His ex-wife needs money and he´s got a child to support. With all the pressure to keep taking in the loot dealing drugs, he falls in love with a beautiful restaurateur, Jo Ann (Michelle Pfeiffer).

Anecdotes.- During the shooting of the sequence that involved Gibson and Pfeiffer in a hot tub, a very explicit sex scene, the two stars prevented the temperature in the bath from bursting any thermometers by playing Scarbble between take.

LETHAL WEAPON 2 (1989)

Plot.- Cops Riggs and Murtaugh are off and running, trying to keep a key witness and themselves alive in Lethal Weapon 2.

Anecdotes.- A stunt went horrible wrong. Mel had insisted he could handle a sequence when he was tied up in a sack and dumped in a water tank. In theory, he was supposed to unravel the rope with ease and come to the surface. But Gibson stayed under the water for a dangerously long period. Professional divers were poised to plunge in the tank and rescue him when he finally emerged. Everybody thought he was gone, but Mel looked at the anguished faces and moved on to the next scene.
