PHOTO 1.- A.P.I SET

My name is Roberto, and I worked in Apocalypto. A fascinating experience despise the intense heat and the hard work.
I can assure you that NOW I know what "GETTING UP EARLY" means. I had to catch a bus at 1 am., guys, in order to arrive in the set at about 2 am.
There were three different sets in Veracruz, my A.P.I SET was in Boqueron (Paso de Ovejas). See pics. num. 1 and 2.

PHOTO 2.- BOQUERON (Paso de Ovejas)

We were a small army. Around seven hundred persons have participated in the production. The set was impressive, the pyramids, the market…and the sun (32º C)!!!.

We, the extras, were divided into several different groups; "Jade Teeth", "Rich Men", "Poor Men" and so on..
The "Rich Men", as always, enjoyed an easy life. They started work at about 6 o'clock am. Mr.Gibson was the richest of the "Rich Men". He started work at 9 or 10 am. I think that this is the reason why he always looks so healthy in the pics and the extras beside him look like "zombies". See pic below.

The DIRECTOR and the EXTRAS.

I was a member of the "Jade Teeth", the most unfortunate tribe. We worked 19 hours per day, from 2 am. To 9 pm., and then we had to wait for hours and hours for the bus so we never slept.

Well, I go on with my report.
Firstly, they made me up. In fact, they had to make me up three or four times per day because of the sweat. We were covered in sweat the whole workday. We stood there in that heat…
After finishing make-up, I was "tortured" for awhile. I had to wear a wig, and every day a hairdresser spent 60 minutes "nailing" 70 hairpins to my head, and I say "nailing" because they hurt me more than once.

I acted in the scenes that were shot in the market where the Mayas bought and sold the slaves. For instance, Mayra Serbulo was "on sale"
The Mayas also sold cats, rabbits and all this stuff in the market. At first, everything was okay but in a couple of days the smell was unbearable because of rotten meat. See pic. below

The heat was suffocating. We had an average of one person fainted in the hot sun every 24 hours. Mr. Gibson never fainted because he wore a hat instead of a heavy wig.
About Mr. Gibson, he was a quiet person. But he smokes too much, I think. When things went wrong, he threw a tantrum (he feigned it, of course). He lay on the ground and kicked like a man possessed. It was very funny!!!.

Mr. GIBSON without his hat.

Mr. Gibson finished work at about 8 pm.
Crumbs! I quite forget the wild animals. Wild animals, I saw an enormous snake and a leopard (I think the animal was a leopard, but I'm not sure).
And that's all, guys.
IN SHORT, I enjoyed very much, and I'm eager to repeat the adventure.
Bye, Bye!!!

APOCALYPTO will be released next December.

THANKS TO ROBERTO G.
A great great person!!!
